Court sealed game?

Buy it on sale. Gameplay is less Diablo and more watered down Dungeon Siege. Which isn't exactly a bad thing, but understand what it means. Repetitive "classic" gameplay set in a universe that has the hooks in place to become a nice indie series. However....and there is a very large however here: The Developer is apparently involved in a lawsuit with its Publisher: which unfortunately has placed this game in a legal hold. The promised Book II content has not been delivered. Both parties have not shed any light on this matter as it's most likely due to some sort of legal gag order. However it would do nothing but improve customer relations if something were said; for better or for worse. As of now both parties are mum on all details and neither have updated store websites in quite some time. I'm all for supporting a good game but with so few details on the status of the game.....I have absolutely no reason to believe that these fire sales are nothing but attempts to recoup lost investments. Games Farm/bitComposer, please prove me wrong and show us some good will.

Good, but...

This is an entertaining "action RPG", a game about clicking to kill, and clicking to loot. It looks beautiful and is fully voiced. The most interesting feature is that the player acquires new, different characters to play during the course of the game. The player selects four of them, and can change freely between them at any time. This allows for mixing different characters' powers (e.g., stunning a group of enemies with one character, then using an area of effect attack with another character). The character development is slow - you won't be hitting new levels too often. However, having multiple characters makes up for it. As of Nov/2014, the game crashes very frequently. Not frequently enough to make it unplayable, but frequent enough to make you lose your progress every once in a while. For now, I'm giving it 3 stars. If it gets fixed, it becomes a 5.

You should not buy it.

Get Awakening instead. Kingdoms is unfinished and will never be finished. Awakening contains this game and more. https://steamcommunity.com/app/256030/discussions/0/1640915206458130934/

Buy Shadows: Awakening instead.

This game is priced the same as Shadows: Awakening, leaving you to assume that this is Book I and Awakening is the promised Book II. This is not true. Shadows: Awakening includes this game, and as of the time of this review is priced identically. There is absolutely no reason to purchase this game. Book II - the free update in the game description - isn't coming. It will never exist. Buying this game will simply put $40.00 USD into someone's pocket and deliver an unfinished game into yours. I can't say it enough. If you want to play this game, you don't, you want Shadows : Awakening. (https://www.gog.com/game/shadows_awakening)

Very good

Beautiful graphics and fully voiced in both languages! You play a schizophrenic character, you main role is a soul eater who controls several other dead souls to travel in the real world. There is a narrator who seems to be the "Kapuzenmann" (hooded man) and has a purpose to call for a daemon like yourself. Works flawless here with the GOG version. In the beginning you will be a little confused, because you need to seamless switch between the shadow plane and the real world if you hit a barrier or other things that might be in one world but not another. Be aware, there are enemies on both sides ;) I am not very far into the story, but you have books with background information, a journal and a home base with a merchant and a collection of all your harvested souls. There is crafting as well! Overall it plays like Diablo2 with modern graphics and more features so far.
