The year is 2054. Magic has returned to the world, awakening powerful creatures of myth and legend. Technology merges with flesh and consciousness. Elves, trolls, orks and dwarves walk among us, while ruthless corporations bleed the world dry. You are a shadowrunner - a mercenary living on the fringes of society, in the shadows of massive corporate arcologies, surviving day-by-day on skill and instinct alone. When the powerful or the desperate need a job done, you get it done... by any means necessary.
In the urban sprawl of the Seattle metroplex, the search for a mysterious killer sets you on a trail that leads from the darkest slums to the city’s most powerful megacorps. You will need to tread carefully, enlist the aid of other runners, and master powerful forces of technology and magic in order to emerge from the shadows of Seattle unscathed.
The unique cyberpunk-meets-fantasy world of Shadowrun has gained a huge cult following since its creation nearly 25 years ago. Now, creator Jordan Weisman returns to the world of Shadowrun, modernizing this classic game setting as a single player, turn-based tactical RPG.
Powerful Content Creation: With the Shadowrun Returns Editor, everyone is empowered to create and share their own stories and campaigns with the Shadowrun community. You can even explore the entire Shadowrun Returns Seattle campaign in the Editor directly - see how it was built and borrow as much as you need to jump-start your own creations! No advanced coding or art skills are required to create content using the SRR Editor.
Gripping Tactical Combat: When you’re running the shadows, every turn matters. Choose your actions wisely - move to better cover, charge into melee, or lob a fireball into a crowd of enemies. With the variety of weapons and spells at your disposal, every turn is filled with meaningful choices. A successful run requires commanding a team of runners with the right balance of combat, tech, and magical abilities.
Skill-Based Character Progression: Choose a starting character archetype and build from there! Street Samurai and Physical Adepts use advanced combat skills to dominate the battlefield, Shamans and Mages summon powerful allies and cast deadly spells, while Riggers and Deckers provide critical technological support, projecting their consciousness directly into drones and computer systems. Shadowrun Returns’ classless skill system allows you to grow your character in any direction you choose. Want to start summoning spirits as an ork Shaman and evolve into a cybered-up weapon specialist? Do it!
Engaging 2D/3D Art Style: Shadowrun Returns mixes dynamic 3D characters and lighting with a vibrant, hand-painted environment. Illustrated character portraits bring every conversation to life. Explore a world filled with detail, from the slums of the Redmond Barrens to the extravagant offices of powerful corporations.

This was my introduction to the Shadowrun series and it was great. I have never played the Shadowrun Table-Top RPG myself, but I consider this a good introduction to the series. The linearity might throw people off, but the game makes up for it with a pretty good campaign, as well as the ability to create your own or subscribe to the campaigns of others. The customizations you can have with your characters are limitless and I highly recommend it.
While I wish that the game could have been longer, I was thoroughly impressed throughout. Even though it was a relatively short game, the story that it told was deeply satisfying.
Wonderful story, interesting characters, engaging dialog, and a beautifully realized setting. I am simply staggered by how much they were able to do on their small Kickstarter budget.
This is a great game if you enjoy old-school cRPGs. Pure and simple. But, for me personally, it goes a small step beyond that.
What I find remarkable about Shadowrun Returns is how CONSISTENTLY good it is. All ingredients are of highest quality and joined seamlessly. The game has no real weak point. Combat is tight, the writing is not spectacular, but well-thought-out and fits the genre. The story is solid, with a few pretty good twists and turns, and it doesn't feel like it's trying too hard. The graphics do their job - they are clear and good-looking in an inobtrusive way. The NPCs are very memorable and feel alive.
The game feels like a classic cRPG, but streamlined, cleaned up and with all cruft cut out. There's no busywork, no tedious micromanagement, no pointless sidequests (there are extra missions, but they are all well-crafted). The combat is involved but approachable. It gives the game a "sharp" feel, the story and the missions unfold in a way that does make you feel like a mercenary for hire.
Keep in mind, that also means the game is linear and rather short. It *could* use slightly more complex runs, with more paths to take. But it didn't spoil the great fun I had. There's still PLENTY to choose from when preparing for a mission, selecting gear, spending experience points. The game is simple, but a good kind of simple.
There's one more goal the game accomplished. It sold me on the concept of Shadowrun. Despite being a fan of tabletop gaming, I never got into the setting. This game may've changed that, actually.
You'll like the game if you enjoy old school cRPG, if you enjoy Shadowrun, if you like a game that's to-the-point and enjoyably accessible.
You might like it less if you mind that it's linear, if you want a very long game or an extreme challenge. The game's biggest strength is how clear and clean and streamlined and to-the-point it all is, but if you're looking for a huge world or a freeform, sandbox-y experience, look elsewhere.
Amusing game, the storywise not really memorable but very enjoyable and not quite difficult to finish. A good strategy turn based rpg - and most important, entertaining.
I have never really being able to get into isometric RPGs, but I found this game awesome. The graphics are crisp and well drawn (runs great on my nVidia GTX 950m); the turn-based combat is easy to wrap you head around; the dialog is well written, with big fonts (no need to squint, a big plus for me), interesting faces of the parties you talk to, and humor put in for good measure. Finally, despite what some reviews mention on the web, I am guessing the game has been updated and you can save (or quick save) at any point in the game (except when in a conversation). All in all, definitely worth the 3.39 euros I spent on purchasing it. Thank you GOG!
