NOTE: The Director’s Cut is free to existing owners of the Dragonfall expansion for Shadowrun Returns.

Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director’s Cut is a standalone release of Harebrained Schemes' critically-acclaimed Dragonfall campaign, which first premiered as a major expansion for Shadowrun Returns. The Director's Cut adds a host of new content and enhancements to the original game: 5 all-new missions, alternate endings, new music, a redesigned interface, team customization options, a revamped combat system, and more - making it the definitive version of this one-of-a-kind cyberpunk RPG experience.

In 2012, magic returned to our world, awakening powerful creatures of myth and legend. Among them was the Great Dragon Feuerschwinge, who emerged without warning from the mountains of Germany, unleashing fire, death, and untold destruction across the countryside. It took German forces nearly four months to finally shoot her down - and when they did, their victory became known as The Dragonfall.

It’s 42 years later - 2054 - and the world has changed. Unchecked advances in technology have blurred the line between man and machine. Elves and trolls walk among us, ruthless corporations bleed the world dry, and Feuerschwinge’s reign of terror is just a distant memory. Germany is splintered - a stable anarchy known as the “Flux State” controls the city of Berlin. It’s a place where power is ephemeral, almost anything goes, and the right connections can be the difference between success and starvation. For you and your team of battle-scarred shadowrunners, there’s no better place to earn a quick payday.

Now, a new threat is rising, one that could mean untold chaos and devastation. One that soon has you and your team caught on the wrong side of a deadly conspiracy. The only clue: whispers of the Dragonfall. Rumors that the Great Dragon Feuerschwinge may still be alive, waiting for the right moment to return…

Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director’s Cut Features:

A Classic, Story-Driven cRPG: See why PC Gamer hailed Dragonfall as “one of the most memorable and complex RPG stories of the decade.” Dragonfall hearkens back to the golden age of computer RPG’s with a novel-like branching narrative full of sharp prose and deep character development. Immerse yourself in a smart, 20+ hour campaign with a diverse cast of all-too-human characters.

A One-of-a-Kind Cyberpunk Setting: Experience the unique “Tech meets Magic” dystopian future of Shadowrun, a fan-favorite game setting now celebrating it’s 25th anniversary. Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director’s Cut is the perfect entry point to the setting for those with no prior Shadowrun experience, while providing plenty of classic Shadowrun characters and tech for veteran players to sink their teeth into.

Command Your Team: Lead a small team of shadowrunners - each with their own outlook, motivations, and backstory. The members of your team are designed to play contrasting roles during missions, and each has a distinct set of skills, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. But it’s not all about the mission - each team member also has challenges to face in their own lives, which you can choose to brush aside or play an important part in.

Gripping, Turn-Based Tactical Combat: When you’re running the shadows, every turn matters. Choose your actions wisely - move to better cover, charge into melee, or lob a fireball into a crowd of enemies. With over 200 weapons and spells at your disposal, every turn is filled with meaningful choices.

Skill-Based Character Progression: Choose a starting character archetype and build from there! Street Samurai and Physical Adepts use advanced combat skills to dominate the battlefield, Shamans and Mages summon powerful allies and cast deadly spells, while Riggers and Deckers provide critical technological support, projecting their consciousness directly into drones and computer systems. Shadowrun: Dragonfall’s classless skill system allows you to grow your character in any direction you choose.

New in the Director’s Cut:

Standalone: Due to popular demand, Dragonfall is now a completely standalone title!

Five All-New Missions: The Director’s Cut features five all-new original missions, including three related directly to the personal stories of your team members. These missions take you to previously-unseen locales - both within the Flux State and beyond - where you’ll have to face challenging enemies and make tough choices in order to help your team members prevail.

Revamped Combat System: The Dragonfall combat system has received a major overhaul. An all-new armor system adds another tactical layer to the experience, while refined cover and damage mechanics emphasize the importance of battlefield positioning. Complementing these improvements is an upgraded AI system which reacts more intelligently and accurately to your actions.

Redesigned Interface: The Dragonfall in-game interface has also been rebuilt. Spells, items and abilities are now much easier to access, while improved combat feedback allows you to fully understand the tactical situation in any given encounter.

Customize Your Team: Guide your team members as they progress in each of their unique roles, choosing between different focus options to grant them new items and abilities. In addition, if you don’t like a team member’s default spell, item or weapon loadout, you can now customize what they bring on each mission.

Ten New Pieces of Original Music: Fan-favorite composer Jon Everist brings ten new tracks of moody cyberpunk music to the Dragonfall experience, including compositions based on the stories of individual members of your team.

The Complete Dragonfall Soundtrack: As a free bonus, the Director’s Cut includes the entire soundtracks from both Dragonfall AND our previous title, Shadowrun Returns. This also includes the brand new tracks exclusive to the Director’s Cut. Featuring music from the composers of the classic Shadowrun SEGA and SNES games, this exciting cyberpunk soundtrack pays homage to the past with a modern sentiment.

Exactly the game I was expecting to play

Very very good game. What I might complain about is just because I am picky, I otherwise really enjoyed it. Very good story, visuals and combat system. For an RPG it might use a bit more cutscenes and the dialog system could definitely be better, but otherwise feels amazing. Right gameplay lenght, good immersion, very smooth gameplay (aside from inventory and team management that are a bit lacking). A couple of bugs here and there but overall minor stuff. Pros : - Nice visuals, fitting the style and settings - Very good story, gets a bit confusing in the end but overall stays super good - Simple but very nice combat system Cons : - Pretty bad/clumsy inventory system - Dialogs system could be better fitting an RPG game - Team management confusing at best - Needs cutscenes

Slightly repetitive yet still fun

Video review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ba4VjMd0h_8 Shadowrun Dragonfall is a standalone expansion to Shadowrun Returns. Shadowrun is a turn based strategy game filled with RPG elements such as choice-based dialogue as well as character creation and customization. The thing that allows Dragonfall to stand out from Returns is that its campaign is almost twice as long as the original, features open quest hubs and removes the linearity of getting a quest, being teleported to the location, and then being teleported back without any choice or say in the matter. This time around you get to actually get a permanent team together instead of having to hire generic NPCs that you never get to talk to like in Returns. The gameplay here is one and the same with Returns though. Your typical turn and cover based strategy game with abilities and characters inspired by the world of shadowrun. The intensity of the fights for a turn based strategy game is actually surprising. You can have a decker hacked into the matrix and fighting off hordes of defense programs while the rest of your team is trying to protect his actual body from hordes all the same. It’s a lot of fun, but this time around with the extended campaign length? It’s VERY repetitive. Shadowrun Dragonfall features far less choices of how to go about things than Returns did. While you can avoid certain confrontations, most jobs and situations you get into will end in a fight no matter what. This game LOVES to force you into combat and spam groups of a dozen enemies per room at your four man squad. The entire last mission was four levels of unit spam. Because of this the gameplay, while fun, does become tedious very quickly and even disappointing if you were hoping for more options for diplomacy or tricks that could help you avoid combat. Stunning Storytelling/Universe Building!

I've been having issues getting into gaming lately. I play mostly rogue-likes and multiplayers, as I've grown bored of the same old stories and experiences. Not since Mass Effect have I played a 6+ hour game to completion... until I saw Shadowrun pop up on my feed. I was familiar with the original videogames as well as the campaigns, and I had heard there had been a new iteration of it.. but whoa I did not know what I was missing. If my experience sounds familiar, give this game a chance. The game looks, sounds and plays beautifully, and the art direction is nothing short of fantastic. This game, accomplishes what most AAA titles can't, and it does so with a small team, allowing the universe to be so cohesive it jumps at you from the very first minute you start the game. It is hard getting through half this game and remembering this universe is fictional and these characters don't exist - everything feels visceral and profound, and it's one of those rare games that stay with you even years after completing it. Can't wait to play the other modern iterations - if they're half as good as Dragonfall they'll be worth every second. Give this game a chance - you deserve to be transported into this universe.

Such a pitty!

The game itself is a really good RPG, just how I like it! However, I really DONT recommend spending money on this as there still are gamebreaking bugs in the game, steam forums are full of complaints about it! It got me during one particularily tedious mission (APEX Rising) during which I made the mistake of saving the game. This results in my being unable to move my character after finally finishing this really long mission, forcing me to restart every time. Really a shame!

The best from the HBS Shadowrun series

This is a great isometric CRPG set in the dystopian cyberpunk future world setting of Shadowrun, which is one of my favorite tabletop RPG systems. They especially did a great job balancing out turns between those in combat and your decker(s) in the Matrix, which was always a hard balancing act when playing the TTRPG. I'm also a big fan of the Shadowrun setting and lore, and there were definitely many nods in the game to lore that was established in the novels, even including a few characters like Aljernon Half-Dream. (Which, as a side note, most of the novels are all available in ebook format again now that the long-standing rights issues were cleared up.) Add on to that the fact that you can also create user generated content (from things like avatars to a full fledged story campaign), and you're looking at basically the Shadowrun equivalent of D&D 3E's Neverwinter Nights. I fully enjoyed the campaign, and I'm looking forward to sinking my teeth into Hong Kong next. I was also rereading the Dragon Heart Saga while playing through Dragonfall, like I did Burning Bright while playing Dead Man's Switch. Out of the 3 games in this series, I think Dragonfall was my most favorite. I originally backed this on Kickstarter (and the same with SRR and Hong Kong), and I don't know why I hadn't finished this before now. Originally, I spent some time playing this and SRR on my Android tablet, but unfortunately HBS recently removed them (as far as I know, Hong Kong was never ported to Android) from the Google Play Store to avoid having to spend the money to make it GDPR compliant. I'll also note that it does work with Macs running an OS version predating OSX Catalina (I played this primarily on a Macbook using OSX Mojave); Apple dropped support for 32-bit apps in Catalina, and all three games in this trilogy are. Given what occurred with GDPR, I would very much not expect them to be updated to 64-bit apps to work under Catalina and future OSX releases.
