Description
All is definitely not well in the world of Arkose. The islands are falling into chaos caused by 'shadow madness', a plague of unknown origin and dire consequence! Who can possibly help before it's too late?

The disease has no known cure and has no warning symptoms, making the result particularly fearsome. It turns its victims into hideous creatures that bare no resemblance to their former selves. You are the only chance that Arkose has.

With intricate battle scenarios involving magic, 6 heroes to choose from and many hours of engrossing gameplay, you can't help but want to fight. Shadow Madness is a race against time and the deadliest enemy of all, the enemy

  • Complex battle scenarios with three styles of magic.
  • Six unique heroes with distinct personalities.
  • 2 Disc product boasting over 48 hours of epic gameplay.
  • Rich Story similar to classics like Final Fantasy VII.
  • Turn Based battle style.
  • FMV sequences.
  • Mini Games made by the team that brought you Powerslave.

On a gentle spring evening, without warning or apparent source, chaos
descends upon the once thriving world of Arkose. A coastal town is silently
crushed, leaving piles of dust where people once stood. A pestilence infects
the land. It cares not whom it reduces to a blubbering, raving lunatic. The
infected spend their final days trying to escape from the cluthes of their
own shadows. There is no apparent cure.

The once prominent Gadgeteer race seems to disappear. Hysteria reigns
supreme. Doors are shut tight and towns turn hostile to strangers. Barriers
of all kinds, some quite lethal, spring-up as towns fight off deranged
strangers and the growing horde of bizarre creatures that are some how
connected with the disease. It's as if some immense, demonic nightclub just
shut its doors at 2 AM, spewing its inebriated, bloodthirsty, vicious patrons
out into the world all at once.

A small band of orphans stumbles along seeking help and answers. They are
assisted by numerous characters and confront hordes of vicious and conniving
adversaries. They wander and explore sweeping landscapes, ranging from
fantastic flying cities to haunted villages and mysterious ruins. They must
solve challenging puzzles, complete difficult mini-quests and meet a slew of
quirky beings as they try to solve the mystery of Shadow Madness.

Hilarious game

Don't play it for the graphics. They suck. Don't play it for the combat. It's simplistic. Play it for the story. It's great! A disease of madness is sweeping through the land, and the only thing that can stand against it are a team composed of a young swordsman, a lady mage, a sentient harvester robot, a... floating head, a gadget maker and an ogre of noble birth? Yeah. That works. The floating head is actually an archmage who is looking for his body. The gadget maker has a big gun he named Mabel. The ogre is a member of the army special forces and the floating head mage has much respect for her. The swordsman keeps flirting with the lady mage and the lady mage keeps dissing him. But the real humor comes from the people you find in the land who have gone stark raving mad. Some will fight you. Others are just good for a laugh. If you just play straight through for the gameplay you will hate this game. If you take your time, poke around and talk to everybody you will love it.

Middle of the Road Adventure

I played this when it was first released, and this was an interesting RPG but not a very deep one. I'm not a FF7 fan boy, in fact it's rated pretty low for me. This game however feels like a budget RPG and it has not aged well in that early PS1 graphics era. The characters were decent in their design to where they are memberable artistically, but less so storywise where I was not deeply invested in them. The turn based combat is engaging, but it's nothing impressive. It's not the worst, but it's not the most rememberable game. It's in that middle of the road where it's not awful enough never to touch, but not a lot excitement to pick it up. Give it a try and make up your own mind.

Wonderful game, port needs minor fixing

I love this game, the story is fun, the lore is interesting, the port however could use just a tiny bit of TLC. When pairing to a controller it for some reason mixes all the buttons up causing the game to be very difficult to play. This can be fixed by pressing ESC and going into the keybind menu there not the one in the pause menu. Once that was fixed its exactly as it should be as far as I can tell so far.

Horrendous Port

I originally owned this on PSone and loved the game for what it was: the JRPG equivalent of an old low-budget, B-movie cult classic. This port, however, makes absolutely no attempt to update the game or add enhancements of any kind. The graphics look utterly horrendous on modern screens and in my humblest of opinions this renders the game as virtually unplayable as it's nigh impossible to become immersed in the world of Arkose due to the constant and unrelenting assault on your eyes. This is a cheap cash-in that is clearly hoping to ride on the coattails of the recent revival of classic-style JRPGs. Don't waste your money.
