Serious Sam: The First Encounter

For anyone interested in seeing how a arena/horde shooter was back in the olden days here is the answer. Nearly a quarter of a century old, I'd rather not think about that, but still as solid as ever. Great shooting, graphics that though blocky thanks to good art direction still hold up and lots, really lots, of enemies. But be warned choose your difficulty wisely, this game does not mess around and will make you work for every fight.

Serious Sam alone revived the adrenaline fast-paced shooters. It inherited fast paced action and high difficulty from Doom while also having it's own unique style.

even for being old game from 2001, its still fun, even after it dosnt have wide screen support, i enjoyed this game, thanks gog for giving this for free

I'm shocked how well this game aged. I remember playing the 2nd game as a kid, surprised by how good the 1st part is, definetly fun to play and a nice introduction to Serious Sam series!

The first entry of Serious Sam offers well built flat maps, Good Item placements and stupidly well thought out punishments. Game has the right lengh and great difficulty scalling by adding enemies and damage / health. Multiplayer offers saving and loading where all players get re-added to the lobby. Second Encounter really turns the dials to 20 and is no fun already on hard with additional 2 higher difficulties. Xbox Serious Sam collection really is great too and unaltered. HD versions simplify some parts of geometry which needed rocket jumps and made some maps shorter or better. Most of it says the same. Can not confirm whether the HD games have save and load in online play. A real treath from 480-728p depending on preference. Only bad thing is the missing directional audio.
