While this is by no means a Zelda-clone, there are just about enough similarities to bring back childhood memories from playing Super Nintendo and Zelda. It's the same type of playstyle. Other then that, I love the graphics and the sound/music. Great mix of quests, good story, interesting characters. I absolutely recommend this game.
I bought this game at a time when I was ill and had to stay at home for a couple of weeks and had a lot of free time on my hands. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try out a new game, so that's what I did.
I started looking for old-style, 2D or 2.5D games that looked similar to a very old game that I absolutely loved, called Aurenderan. So, my search criteria was based on that game: to find something that looks visually similar to Arunderan and has similar game mechanics.
Now, I have to say I actually did enjoy playing this game for those 2 weeks while I was ill. The story is interesting enough for you to want to explore it a bit further and find out what happened in the character's past. There's a good amount of different areas and biomes that look colourful on the screen. The boss fights are fun but some of them are just too difficult and visually overwhelming (lots of screen pollution).
However, there are a few things that were definitely a downer for me. One of them was the character skill tree. It just looks confusing, there's too many skills to upgrade and so many different types of points to spend, it would be better if it was simplified and dumbed down.
While there are several fun puzzles in the game, some are just too difficult and not fun. It made me want to stop playing for a while actually because I was so frustrated with the puzzles and couldn't see any logical solution. Mind you, I have played through all of "The Talos Principle" and "The Witness", so this is clearly not a skill issue...
Last but not least, the story. The story itself seems interesting at the start but as we delve deeper into the lore and head towards the ending it becomes a bit underwhelming. Not to mention the final boss tower, which just seems unnecessarily difficult and long. I stopped there and decided not to play the game any further as I didn't see a point in trying to struggle all the way to the top and lacked the motivation for it anyway. If the story stayed interesting throughout, then maybe, but not in this case.
So, overall: this is a fun game, don't get me wrong but not fun enough to keep you engaged for long or to make you go back and replay it several times, even after years of playing it, like for example in Hollow Knight.
3/5 for me.
