More like Monolith meets Noitu Love 2

SourgeBringer is a 2D ninja-platformer spectacle roguelite that's about shooting, dash attacking, and comboing your way through a maze of monster-infested arena rooms. The premise is it's the future and a transdimensional tower/gun/ship has poked into our reality and for ages has methodically nuked city after city until the remnants of humanity are reduced to techno barbarianism. You play a woman with a sword, a gunbot, and enormous hair who's the strongest of her tribe and has been sent into the tower to seek the entities who control it and put an end to the destruction. You aim with the mouse and move with WASD. Your character can double jump, wall-run endlessly, shoot at the crosshairs, dash-slash at the crosshairs, and will remain airborne so long as she's swinging her sword with the LMB, or doing a guard-breaking/stunning/enemy throwing/bullet deflecting heavy attack. The game has an unlockable combo/style meter and like the Devil May Cry games, the higher your style, the more money (blood) you get from kills. Combat in this game is FAST! And it's worth noting that in the accessibility options, you can toggle autofire on for melee attacks and save your mouse finger. The graphics have an 8-bit NES quality, but the music switches between chiptune ambient when exploring, and dunting electric guitars during combat. Spritework is pixelated and cartoony, but you have the option to change from pixelated font to high-def. My one complaint is the game has a lot of unlockables, many of which are core gameplay concepts (like the combo meter or reflecting bullets) and you're gonna have to do a lot of grinding to get the full gameplay experience. This may be a positive for some players. Fast and furious ninja gameplay in bite-sized roguelite servings, I heartily recommend!

Great accessibility options.

A five star review just for that, yes. A shame more games don't do this.

Sooooooo Good!

This game is one of the best rogue like games that I've played in a long time. It's actually very similar to games like Rogue Legacy and even has some similarities to Enter The Gungeon. The controls are some of the best that I've ever experience in a platformer. It immediately feels tight and intuitive and you can't help feeling powerful from the very start of the game. You can tell that the developers put a lot of thought into the control scheme because you never really feel cheated when you die. Keep in mind that I've only played it for about an hour so far, but I absolutely love what I've seen so far.

Way to hard

Way to hard, after 10 hours, unlocked all the branches of the tree, slow down the bullets to 50% and give an extra life, I don't see how can I beat the game. I'm not an extra gamer, but I'm not a newbee too. I love difficult games, when you have to master a gameplay but here's it's too much. The controller are good and nervous but sometimes, when you dash, it dashes where you don't want to. So you have to be precise, but you have to dash quickly. If you too slow you can judge the situation, but the ennemies come to master the piece, and if you're too speed, 1 error and this is critical. And there's no really story or upgrade or whatever who wants me to dig more on the game. So if you're a trully hardcore gamer who wants a roguelike, go for it. For the others, it's a waste of time.

An Unconventional Rougelike

I bought this game mainly based off aesthetics. I am pleased to say that it was much more than that. It is a 2D rougelike action platformer with great pixel art. It probably has some of the best pixel art you'll see this year at least. The main gameplay loop: You fight your way through a total of five stages, with a boss at the end of each. Of course there are skills to unlock to help you get farther, which are bought with something called Judge blood. Judge blood and "regular" blood are collected by killing enemies. "Regular" blood is used to buy upgrades, guns, or mods for your gun for that run. Speaking of guns, there are a few options in this game: the pistol you start with, shotguns, lasers, machine guns, and assault rifles. There isn't that many options for each category. You really just want the most powerful one. The melee combat in this game is the most interesting to me. While this is a platformer and there are platforms in the game, that is not the main appeal here. You play as a ninja. You are able to float in mid air as you slash at enemies. That's what makes this game so unique from other rougelikes. It prioritizes mobility and speed more than anything else. So that Eurogamer quote, "Dead Cells meets Celeste," is not correct at all in my opinion. Overall it's a great game.
