Code Mystics>>>>>DotEmu trash

The DotEmu trash was replaced by the masterpiece version of Code Mystics. This version offers the best port for this game well polishe with many features like galllery, training mode, ost selection, local & online multiplayer that the previos DotEmu trash lacks, and it has a better rollback netcode that the fightcade version. So if you're a fan of the franchise do not hesitate to get it becuase it offers a quality experience. When you buy a games from SNK make sure you buy only the titles that aren't trash ports from DotEmu and those are KOF98UM, KOF02UM, KOFXIII & this one obviously. You won't regret it. As a hardcore fan I have both versions(GOG & Steam) of those games you can find me with the same username at either platform.

Best Samurai Shodown

First off, this is the full uncensored version after recent update and is handled by Code Mystics and not DotEmu anymore. A lot of reviews are before the recent update and do not reflect properly. Simply put this is one of the best fighters I have played in a while and is probably the most balanced out of any Samurai Shodown game. Not bad for people that are both new and veterans of the series as there is a practice mode included to get used to overkills (fatalities), etc. Moves themselves are easy to learn being not that many buttons and while it offers challenges, the game is not overly frustrating being that if you die you can continue where you left off, which is a life saver at times. For fans of the series, looking to experience the game how it was meant to be, this is a must own.

GREAT game, bad port

In my opinion, this is THE best designed, most competitive, and most interesting Samurai Shodown game there is (yes it's better than 2 also.) I've been playing this game somewhat competitively for awhile and I can say that it's nice to see this game get a port to PC. However, this game deserves a much better port than this one. Basic things like being able to change the button layout on the keyboard, use my arcade stick, and even some graphical filters (which I don't really care about but nontheless would have been nice additions) are nowhere to be found here. It's basically a Mame emulation with a wrapper on it when you look at the files in the directory, which is sad because this is a legitimately great game and to see the company that made it do it such a disservice to it by putting out lazy ports like this one that are hardly helpful in terms of getting new players to take it for a spin. I recommend buying this version of the game as a means of supporting it, but instead of playing this version, play it on fightcade. Not only is there online, but there are a lot of features this version SHOULD have (like being able to map buttons and use more than a 360 controller for instance.) Samurai Shodown 5 Special was unfortunately not included in the Samurai Shodown Anthology so this is one of the only legit ways to experience the game, but sadly, it's not necessarily the best way.

Good game bad port

The game is good but the port is terrible. Character control is annoying because of keyboard and gamepad button mapping can not change. Game lacks also graphical options. Options are only Windowed or Fullscreen, no alternative resolutions or filters. This game emulation is just bad, so avoid the game.

Better late than never

For a long time, SS5 Special was something of a holy grail in the series, an arcade-only revamp of the underwhelming Samurai Shodown 5 that basically perfected the formula of the series up to that point. I have had the pleasure of playing it in arcades, but I also appreciate a competent home port, which this is. Being a dream match game, you won't get much in the way of bells and whistles, however. Still, for the price you really can't complain.
