Samorost 1

I can't even remember where I heard of this, but I think I saw Samarost 3 and wanted to start with Samarost 1. Except it wasn't available anywhere! When I saw it here on GOG - FOR FREE!!! - I was so happy! As everyone else says, it's very short, but it's a little masterpiece. It has everything I love in a puzzle game - inventive graphics, a charming storyline, interesting and appealing characters and creatures, and not so hard I head for a walk-through (that last one is forgivable, I'm not the best puzzle-solver!). This is a "glass of wine and a relaxing game after work" sort of game, with illustrations to please an artist's eye. Go for it!

It's a good game: very short (my first playthrough of the original Flash version was under an hour and I was soaking it all in), but memorable all the same thanks to very good graphics with a (at the time) unique art direction, and some good use of sounds. The gameplay itself is quaint, nothing too taxing obviously but there's just enough that you need to think. It's really just that: short and sweet. A proof of concept for greater things to come. And a good intro to the works of Amanita Design.

I'm an older gamer. It's nice to find a relaxing game. The puzzles were hard enough to make me think, but not to the point of frustration. The second scene made me laugh out loud. I almost gave it four stars because of how short it is. In the end I though it deserved 5 because it was so creative with a loveable character. I will be looking at 2 and 3 based on this, basicly a preview of what must be longer games in the series.

This game isn't long enough to even to be called a snack. It more qualifies as a demo. I was worried until I saw it was free. I'm giving it a star off because it doesn't tell you anything about the controls or goals of the game. You don't really need them but it's odd nonetheless. Also, the artstyle is a little off but for a free game, it deserves all the stars thereafter.

It's cute, short, and free of charge. If you want something you can puzzle over with the family, the Samorost series is a good choice.
