The Holy War is over. The demons of Gologotha have been banished, yet the cost has been terribly high. The Creator, god of the Fyllid, has been defeated and the faith of the people has begun to wane. Petty squabbles among the five remaining gods has caused the land to split into five mystical territories - each at war with one another. Into this divided land steps a wizard, a man haunted by his past, whose choices will shape the future.
Which god will he choose? Will he sacrifice himself to change this world for the better, or will what remains of this world be sacrificed for one god's glory?

... with a tempting story, several storybranches, twists and intrigues you can even trigger yourself and unique bossfights against enemy avatars plus their armies this game will keep you playing for quite a while. The storyline with it's branches is so dynamic you can even switch sides and go to war for the enemy in the midst of the campaign or stay loyal at your chosen god's side. Another thing that made this game great is the quick and easy multiplayer mode - every player selects her or his favourite god and starts harvesting souls in good or evil ways, capturing expansion bases and just commanding their army to crush the enemy in an about 30 minutes skirmish. It's very well balanced, too, even if there are 5 gods and every god has unique creatures and spells connected to one of 5 elements. The trick is to not loose too much units to the enemy or harvest the souls of the fallen creatures back immediately or your enemy will get them and outnumber your army.
This is the most original and unique game I ever seen, its full of super new ideas, awesome bizard design and above all its a hardcore game.
Thanks Shiny Games for this master piece, and I hate this world cause good guys dont make games anymore but we still got people like EA or other shits like CoD ...
As a GAME, this game gets 4/5. As a piece of art, as something to be pondered, it is 10 for 10.
The art direction is jaw dropping.
The multiplayer was a blast and had a surprisingly populated community back in the day. I need to find my CD or rebuy on GOG and see if people still knock around.
This is a must-play on your list if you haven't had the pleasure.
This game is my old favorate. But Recently i played for a week or so and today i played again and there was an issue were when i want to play campain it would crash after loading screen. Anybody can help?
The game begins with a world in ashes. You and your familiar find the lone survivor, a blind seer, and begin telling him the story of how this bizarrely beautiful world came to ruin.
Were you helping the goddess Persephone lead her forces of nature in instilling this world with order, when a minion of Charnel, the evil god of death and decay, caused your downfall? Perhaps his forces overwhelmed you, and nothing is left of you now but your maggot-ridden corpse.
Of course, that's not what really happened. Let me start again.
You were aiding Pyro, lord of fire and technological progress in paving the way for an industrial revolution that would unite this chaotic world of fantasy under a fiery banner, when the ethereal army of Stratos prevented you from achieving that goal. You were struck down by lightning, and now nothing is left but your charred remains.
Of course, that's not what really happened. Let me start again.
This destruction was brought about by you, and your devotion to slaughter, death, and, above all, power. As a servant of Charnel, you were well on your way to destroying this pathetic excuse for a world, when your climb was haulted by James, earthworm god of peace and agriculture. You will have to return another day, if success is to be had.
Of course, ...
You are given many choices in Sacrifice, and can pursue many different lines of ethos, motivation, and style. "Style" is the word here, in a game that is unique in its visual presentation and unparalleled in its voice acting. Was that Time Curry I heard?
The replay value of the game is off the charts. It keeps me coming back again and again, wondering how this or that choice will affect the inevitable fate of the world -- which I know to be inevitable due to the past-tense storytelling, but this does nothing to diminish my desire to change it. I've played the game many times. I've bought it twice.
Let me start again.
Pros: Incredible plot, style, and ambiance. The graphics were great at the time, and have aged well, into a demented old wine. Can run on a netbook (after a fashion). Replay value is great with so many plot lines and potential motivations to pursue.
Cons: Difficulty scales sharply upwards towards the end of the campaign.
