Description
Not all wars are fought on the open battlefield. Download The Saboteur to visit 1940s Nazi-occupied Paris, as you play tough Irish racecar mechanic Sean Devlin. Working with the French Resistance, Sean is out for revenge against ruthless Nazi Colonel Kurt Dierker, who executed Sean’s best friend.

This open-world action thriller takes you through the seedy streets of Paris as you seek to undermine the German authority and lead a rebellion. Fight across rooftops and through dangerous alleys, and operate a wide variety of vehicles as you navigate your terrain. You can even climb the Eiffel Tower or Notre Dame Cathedral for a sniping mission.

Use stealth and disguise to strike at the heart of the Nazi war machine by disabling trains, destroying bridges, and blowing up enemy facilities. As you work to remove the oppressive forces from parts of the city, the drab black-and-white palette gives way to bright colors, signifying that you’ve inspired the townspeople. The more you incite the people, the more they’ll aid you by intervening in fights or providing a quick getaway from pursuing Germans. The Saboteur presents a fresh take on World War II and features dramatic cinematic elements. The action and intrigue is yours to experience via download on the PC now.

Key features:

  • First Ever Open-World Paris — Climb the Eiffel Tour, snipe from Notre Dame Cathedral, and brawl on the Champs d’Elysee as you sabotage your enemies. Fight, climb, and prowl through the dark alleys, rooftops, burlesque houses, and seedy streets of the City of Lights — the ultimate playground for the Saboteur.
  • The Art of Sabotage — Being the Saboteur is all about attacking while staying unnoticed. Get your mission intel at underground clubs and cabarets. Eliminate your adversaries with stealth attacks, disguise, distractions, and explosives. Master a variety of weapons, automobiles, and skills to sabotage enemy operations.
  • The Will to Fight — An action-packed experience and thrilling storyline are made even more engaging by an innovative visual style, characters, and the new “Will to Fight” technology. Experience how the city reacts and changes around you as you free it from Nazi oppression. Only you can restore hope and grandeur to Paris.
  • French Resistance Strikes — Call for support from The Underground in the form of getaway cars, weapon deliveries, distractions, and much more.

No fortunate one.

I have played this long before GOG. The game is definitely not finished. Several characters disappear without explanation, and the ending is sudden and unexpected, leaving you with a huge map with a lot of unvisited places. Feels like game supposed to be at least 1.5 longer. Yet it is still so amazing, I will definitely recommend this game to anyone. Story is exciting and interesting, pretty unusual one for WWII-era game. Characters have their stories and personalities, every one of them is pretty believable. Stealth and action are equally well made. And the style of the game is simply awesome. I do not know what exactly went sideways, why this game was largely unnoticed, but now, if you're reading this, make things right and try out the Saboteur.

Flawed, but fun

I have the original disc sitting in the cabinet behind me and I think this is a lovely addition to GOG. The game has its problems, especially in the technical department. But when it wasn't busy eating your saves or making you lose races or time trails by loading too slowly, it was a lot of fun. The game is essentially GTA in occupied Paris (and surroundings!). What makes it its own beast is the presentation; enter a occupied part and all color will seep out of your surrounds until you're left with, black, white and the red of the omnipresent Nazi banners. The music whilst driving also helps in setting the mood. Gameplay consists of you sneaking into fortified Nazi positions, eliminating key figures and structures as you go, driving to places and all sorts of side activities such as racing. Story-wise it's okay, your basic story about vengeance and redemption. It's amusing but nothing special. Personally I loved this game, especially the setting, the mood and the visuals. It doesn't do anything special and yes it's flawed, but I still loved it.

Should have saved the studio

This game is clunky and wonderful, allowing you to permanently destroy Nazi installations throughout an occupied Paris France, and literally restore color to areas that were previously bathed in a black and white filter representing their despair. This has one of the best and most atmospheric ending sequences in any game, provided you don't shoot everybody involved.

I Need A Sequel

I'm old. At the end of the day, the measure of a game (or even an experience, for that matter) is the tragic realisation that it has, or will soon, come to an end. Anything that hits you in that sweet spot becomes a treasured memory, and all sins are forgiven, The Saboteur is not perfect. In some instances, it's downright frustrating and tedious, but it doesn't really matter. The characters are written and voiced well, the quests are varied, and it's always nice to see that explosion of colour when you liberate an area. It's a real shame the Saboteur hasn't received the kind of acclaim it should have, but perhaps that's Pandemic in a nutshell. Even amidst the age and imperfection of the game, I have no qualms about affording it my full recommendation.

Almost 5 stars.

This game is a lot of fun, but needs one last patch. First, the graphics settings are in a separate exe, and don't run on first launch. You need to set them manually or it'll look awful. Second, you have to turn on your controller after you launch the game, or it won't work right. Third, unexpected crashes in some of the menus. You don't NEED to access those to play, but they still shouldn't crash the game either. Last, there's a DLC attack move which you can unlock (see the forums.) This should either be toggled in by default or the instructions should be in the goodies. So yeah it's a lot of fun when you know how to make it work, but the publishers and GOG need to polish it up a bit. Should not be sold with two major glitches and outdated settings.
