This is a game that you get to discover and explore at your own pace. I loved the art style, very reminiscent of the style of Moebius (Jean Gireaud), I bought the game solely for that at first.
The story is a bit shallow and leaves you wanting for more, you'll wish there had been more story elements to complement the places to explore.
I played the game in 2024, I have not encountered many bugs, definitely not on the scale reported by some other reviews here.
But man does it have a fair amount of bugs.
This game is an experience and a half, and I genuinely think everyone should play it, but it's probably a good idea to wait a bit before playing it.
The graphics are beautiful, the controls are responsive (though I would appreciate some more options for adjusting the controls) and the sound design is delightful. I beat it not too long ago, and I am fully wanting to go back and replay the whole thing again.
I love this game! I heard about it years ago when all we had was a couple GIFs. For me this is just a wonderful world to be in!
Exploring this world for the first time was awesome! Every few minutes there'd be a new thing on the horizon, a new view, a new height to climb. Apart from the very very pretty art, the writing was also really nice for me. The characters do not say too much, but what they did say had an impact on me, and conveyed a sense of who they are. Some are friendly, some are really grumpy, and others are mostly busy with themselves. I liked meeting the people of this world!
There's also quite a lot of mystery to this world, which is not fully explained, but there are plenty of hints in the various things you find and people you talk to.
In the end I did not want to make the choice you have to make at the end of the game. Even after thirty hours playing (I am slow) I'd find a tiny new secret, or a new view that was just amazing. I played through the ending once, but I will keep coming back, to explore a bit more, maybe collect a few more chum eggs and just enjoy being in this world.
Yes, there are some bugs and performance improvements to be made and the devs have announce that patches are coming, but even as it is right now, this is one of my favourite games, if not THE favourite of mine.
In short, if you like the art style, love exploration and a wistful tone, and can live with a few bugs while they are there, I think you may enjoy this as much as I did.
