Description
Hawaii: an idyllic island paradise. It's the spot Brian Basco and Gina Timmins have chosen to take a well-earned vacation. An impromptu day trip to a remote and relatively uninhabited island goes awry, however; the plane stops working, and fast action is required if anyone is going to get out of the “idyllic trip” alive. Brian forces Gina from the plane, giving her the only working parachute. Brian luckily survives the plane's crash landing, but Gina has disappeared, setting the stage for a highly entertaining story.

In Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle, you will travel the world, from Alaska to Hawaii, from the highest reaches of the sky above to the harrowing deeps of the sea below, spooling out the thread of a gripping story. Immerse yourself in this tongue-in-cheek story where you'll meet a crazy cast of miscreants in order to solve a mystery too weirdly entertaining for words.

  • Up to 100 locations from all four corners of the world rendered in lush detail.
  • Excellent production, marvelous scenarios, ever-present humor, and amazing puzzles.
  • More than 30 fully-realized characters, all with distinct (and occasionally oddball) personalities.
  • Over an hour of amazing animated sequences!

Insufferable

I played this game over a decade ago or maybe even longer, and it definitely has not aged well. I remember it was fun and great looking. I was at a different time in my life, and now that I'm older, the game still looks great, but the gameplay is awful, the over narration of the main character and the endless pointless stupid dialogue threads that go on for eternity for every single character just make this game a drudgery and a chore. I haven't played the third one yet, which was really the whole reason I decided to play these games again, but I'm not sure I have the endurance to make it through this second game to make it to the final chapter. This game violates many rules of good gameplay and storytelling, the most glaring fault is as I mentioned above, the main character tells you everything that is happening, and then we see exactly on screen what the main character just said. Shut up already. I really don't get it, when game developers think they can tell a story because they have some technical chops. The story here is thin, just like the first Runaway game, and it's really a shame. The skeleton to tell a compelling story with actual likeable characters is here, but the designers are obviously lacking in the plot and good storytelling skills. The characters are extremely unlikeable, the pixel hunting and walking back and forth a million times to blindly stumble onto the reason why you need to oh I dunno, ride a mechanical bull or get your picture taken in a wood cutout frame, and what for? So many tasks seem idiotic and pointless, distracting and only vaguely related to the main task of once again, rescuing Gina, which after she lied and manipulated Brian in the first game, why do we care? Skip this one, unless you are a completist and a masochist.

Lots of hot dudes

The game follows the events of the first game, so you should play the series in sequence. The graphics and animations have improved, and the tone is a bit more grown-up. But it is still a wild and silly adventure with horrible pixel hunting of small black objects on black background and puzzles with moon logic. Adding to the aggravation, you also need to interact with the same spots multiple times and there are also timed puzzles. I strongly recommend to follow a walkthrough from the start of the game, it will be much more enjoyable. Regardless, I liked this game better than the first. Note that you must run it through DXWnd tool and set graphics quality to low, otherwise the game is unplayable. You may also need to run "video card setup.exe" first, and set to run the game as admin.

ep1:meh.ep2:gah.

There is just everything wrong with this game. Stability, voice acting, music, soul patch, sound effects, dialogues, monologues, writing in general, puzzles, soul patch, character design, pacing, soul patch. Just everything. Ever thought what would happen if soul patch was a game? Me neither. And I used to sport one. I also thought I was being funny. Hell, I must have been annoying.

The first game was fun but...

This game from the start was a mess, some sequences were lagging it was so distracting, the story wasn't as interesting as the first one, puzzles are annoying and makes you look everywhere, return to every places, talk a lot to unlock things it gets boring, graphics aren't that bad considering they are almost 15 years old, but still the game puzzles and story aren't as fun anymore, the jokes here are mostly terrible and aged the worst, while I felt embarrased of lots of things I kept playing it but the return of certain character that I hated in the first game was so annoying and then you get stuck with this character, but the thing that made me stop was getting further and then the game becoming so laggy to keep playing, I uninstalled it.
