Röki

A fairytale story which is surprisingly touching and well realized. The setting and artstyle is beautiful, you can almost smell the crisp winter air. I found the puzzles quite intuitive and rewarding, although another reviewer is absolutely right that every single scene you go to you need to spam the 'detect hotspots' button and ensure you are not missing picking anything up. Even with doing that there is still a fair amount of backtracking, and a fair amount of tedium with some of the puzzles (ie you know what you need to do but there's no way to speed through it, you have to walk over to a certain spot, climb up a certain wall, do a thing, climb back down, adjust something, then walked back over and climb up again, etc etc.) But the tedium stops jusssst short of being too much to bear, and it's in the end the atmosphere and art and characters are more than charming enough to make this a highly enjoyable romp.

So, where do I start? What a wonderful journey this game was! Just finished my playthrough and I'm still deeply touched about the beauty of this game. How to describe Röki? Röki is, in its core, a point and click adventure. But instead of having a 2D or 2.5D scene you move around, the world it built in many 3D areas. In these you do the things you'd do in classic point and click adventures: talk, find items, combine them, use them where needed. I found the difficulty perfect (for me), starting quite easy and becoming more difficult, but always fair. So on one hand, Röki is an extremely well done nicely designed adventure game. But on the other hand, Röki is pure magic when it comes to story telling and atmosphere: the story is full of heart, warmness, melancholic at times, and leaves you feeling deeply touched and positive in the end. The music is incredibly good, the german translation one of the best I've seen in a game for some time. If you ask me to complain at least about one thing, then that a full voice would be a nice to have goodie: there is a voice over to some degree, but more in a stylized way that transports the emotion of what is said. Take this NOT as criticsm, because the way they did it suits the atmosphere perfectly and I'm not even sure that a full voice over would be better. I played the game with an Xbox controller, what worked perfectly. Took me around around 16 hours to finish the game, taking my time to explore and search for the collectibles...I'm sure you can be faster if you're in a hurry. Great job from the developer! I'll definitely have an eye on what they will do in the future!

Loved the graphics, the story, the music. Beautiful game

This is a beautiful, well-designed adventure game. It's more on the casual/relaxing side, the puzzles are rather easy and as long as you explore your surroundings and pick up items along the way, you will not be struggling with puzzles at all. I find the music and art beautiful. Really, it's not often that I find a game so perfectly executed as this one. In my opinion it achieves everything it tried to. Sure, it's an indie game, some animations are missing here and there, but it is still well above average indie-quality. I totally recommend it!

The plot and the world are really engaging. Unfortunately the gameplay is so slow, full of backtracking, invisible doors, and possibility to softlock yourself.
