Game is great!!! If you like Robocop, this is Robocop.
There are some issues here and there, minor graphical glitches and a crash or two ... but the game is fun and very true to the original vision of RoboCop.
- Big armored machine from hell - CHECK
- Guns feel satisfying - CHECK
- Heads go pop - CHECK
- Bigger, meaner enemies, SURE - CHECK
The game is nothing stellar, graphics are nice and story is w/e, you're playing a cop without too much intriguing mysteries. Is it fun? Sure, if you want to just play it to relax and plow through a story. The game is fairly linear and while there's side stuff to do, it's hard really getting into doing those things.
Overall I give it a 7/10, you'll enjoy shooting stuff up, but really that's about all there's too it, and well visuals are nice too.
I have played quite a few games that are movie adaptions. Some games have been horrendous garbage that were name alone and nothing else. Some struggled to link actual gameplay with the movie. Some had great linkage with the movie but horrible gameplay. This was the best by far. Admittingly there were many times I thought they could have ended the game earlier and it would have been fine, but the ending was fantastically done. The other games I could recommend that came close to this are Terminator Resistance: Annihilation Line, and Alien: Isolation.
You really felt like you were playing as Robocop throughout the entire game and it never gave the illusion that it was a normal shoot em up. The character relationships, the multiple routes you can go to influence character paths, the pure atmosphere of old detroit from the movies.
It would be interesting if they could do a crossover with Terminator since the same company worked on both games (Teyon) and you can see a few similarities in the game due to this that work great in both games.
Pros :
- Like a lot of people, I was worried I'd get bored by the slow gunplay, but the developers managed to make it fun for the duration of the game (16h for my playthrough)
- The game looks nice for an AA game (ugly characters but nice locations)
- You feel your character progressing with the skill points and upgrades to your main weapon (enemies get stronger and stronger but you don't fall behind, like in some other games)
- I can easily see myself doing another playthrough to select different upgrades and choices / dialogue options
- I wasn't expected much from the story but honestly, I was entertained, surprised, and ended the game with a smile on my face
Cons :
- There could be a little less walking, especially backtracking. Sometimes when you've completed a side quest, you're "tasked" to leave the place/building. Instead of making me walk back, why am I not simply teleported outside ?
