RoboCop: Rogue City

Wow, what a great game. So beautiful and ugly at the same time, it gives the vibes of the movies I loved so much in my youth. The story is great with a depth know from classics like The Witcher games. They kept the irony and zynism of the movies giving some great society critics mixed up with never boring punch lines. The game itself plays like a detective story mixed with pretty hardcore shooter mechanics. Add some Max Payne slow-motion and Bulletstorm stunts and you get a promising 15 hour game. I really enjoyed it.

I'm not much of a RoboCop fan - only seen parts of RoboCop, seen RoboCop 2 only once - so take what I say with a grain of salt. This game really delivers when it comes to staying faithful to my experience with the series and '80s cinema in general. The cringy dialogue and acting, no nonsense action and gore combined with the satirical nature of RoboCop itself creates an experience with plenty of character. Story kinda dragged about two thirds in, but like I said I'm not a big RoboCop guy. Gameplay it feels like a mix of Deus Ex and Cyberpunk 2077; a shooter with some minor RPG elements. Nothing special, but it gets the job done. Performance is okay, even though it regularly freezes and crashed on me once.

It is worth every penny and every hour spent in it. Gameplay, story, quests, RPG elements, all balanced out. Nothing is too long or too boring. "If you love the original movie, this is the game for you!" - said in the 80's advertisement style. + you kill baddies left and write, no moral dilemmas on that front + you get better and you feel it + you choose if you want to be more humar or more a machine + you watch your RoboCop movie, but in interactive way + listen to ads on the radio, different corporate announcements etc to actually see the misery of when money fully rule the world - optimization isn't that great, but whatever Enjoy!

It's pretty clear that's what they were after, and IMO they did a great job. I think they could have handled some things differently story wise, and the soundtrack could have been a little more rich but otherwise it hits every note it should. Definitely one of my favorite FPS in the past few years. There's incentive to play new game plus as well thanks to the progression system.

After a bunch of bad 8 and 16 bit action platformers and that garbage 2003 game, we finally have a good, though not great Robocop game. Made by the same people that did terminator resistance, it plays more or less the same. Thankfully, this game also respects the source material pretty well. It does have issues though. Long load times, is fussy to start up and has performace issues. Probably could have used more time in developement but the end result is still a solid power fantasy. Here's hoping they do an Aliens game next.
