7/10

RoboCop: Rogue City is a pitch-perfect throwback to the action movies of the ‘80s. It’s over-the-top violence with charm, largely well put together but rough on the edges. Most importantly, it's a fun way to spend time in a beloved fictional universe that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Blasting at goons as an unstoppable walking machine remains as extremely entertaining as it seemed on the big screen, thanks in part to an impressive commitment to capturing the look and feel of the original film. Mixing in elements like routine police work and side quests does a great job changing the pace, too. Even if it’s not the best example of visual fidelity, and prone to some bugs along the way, that love of RoboCop shines through. This is a solid B movie of a video game, which is exactly what the source material demands.

RoboCop: Rogue City is a methodical shooter that makes you feel like Old Detroit's greatest crime fighter, but it errs when its devotion to authenticity wanes.

3.5/5 stars

Even if Rogue City had started to rust a little towards the end of its lengthy campaign, its surprisingly in-depth shooting and roleplaying mechanics, love of the source material, and keen understanding of what makes RoboCop so great in the first place has made it one of the biggest surprises of 2023 for me. In a year full of absolute bangers, make sure you spend some time in Detroit.

Great Game

This game certain has a B-Movie, budget feel to it. You aren't here for the story, you're here to blow the living shinola out of bad guys. And to that end it does a great job. Basically, Robocop not only absolutely nails the feel of both playing as Robocop himself, with his slow-but-tanky bag full of tricks (such as ricocheting bullets) , but it also nails the feel of the Robocop world. They have absolutely perfected Detroit to a tee here, alongside all the core elements from the first 2 films, such as the Police Department and ED-209. And the gameplay is satisfying as hell. It's simple, it's straight forward, but it's really well crafted to offer challenges which evolve nicely, which give you some lovely feedback, and which come dripping with gore too. Great stuff all round. Main complaints were that it crashed a bit too often, and that some of the side-quests were dull and should just have been left out.

Very "RoboCop!" Fun, Not Perfect

I enjoy the way RoboCop: Rogue City fuses FPS and RPG genres and I think it works well. There are some clunky mechanics in the systems, especially upgrading the Auto9. I think I might have done this one thing a bit differently. On the other hand, I have not seen this mechanic executed in this way before. Maybe once I find the "right" parts I'll be happier with it. Overall this is the only real complaint I have with the systems. The "quest/mission" system works, if a little bit clumsy at times. Some of the quests are a little lazy, like wandering around the map to find every single piece of "evidence" on the map in order to get enough points to level up a skill. I missed a couple things in the first chapter and missed a skill point as a result. I don't yet know how important that skill point might prove to be. I very much like the interaction with the public mechanic, though it remains to be seen how important it will prove to be. The sound design is very good. I don't have any complaints about the graphics or effects. I have only gotten maybe halfway through the second "chapter" but I haven't encountered any bugs yet. I was a bit surprised and very pleased that Peter Weller reprises his RoboCop role in this game. He really is THE voice (and character, for that matter) of RoboCop! This one detail adds a great deal to the game's atmosphere. I've been catching up on the made-for-TV movie series and the single TV series that I found out existed after I started playing the game, and while the processing of the voices of the other actors sort of minimizes the difference, it is still extremely noticeable when Weller is NOT voicing the iconic character. The reason for only 4 stars: the auto-save system. It's terrible if your gaming sessions are only short chunks of time, say half an hour. It can take significantly longer to reach the next auto-save point. Entering/exiting buildings triggers saves but that can be very inconvenient. Manual save is NOT available. 06-15-25

Good game but with performance issues

Game itself in terms of what Robocop supposed to be is great, story is decent but what I liked the most in it is dry humour that you can hear going around, shooting at the beggining may feel weird but perfectly in character you play. My main issue is performance of the game, it often either got stuck at the loading screen or crashed randomly, while it wouldn't bother me if it was only one for few hours, the crashes can happen quite often and aren't exactly predictable, other problem is sudden drop of fps that may happen from nowhere but that can be usually fixed by going back to main menu and loading back in. Overall solid game in terms of content but with clear issues related to performance/gameplay

Almost 4/5

I would gladly give it at least 4 stars, but there's a single important thing why I can't do that... IT'S A UE5 SLOP!
