Description
The Gold Edition includes: Risen 2: Dark Waters, and the following DLCs: Risen 2: Dark Waters - Treasure Isle, Risen 2: Dark Waters - A Pirate's Clothes, Risen 2: Dark Waters - Air Temple.

Set several years after the end of Risen, raging titans have devastated the world and pushed humanity to the brink of existence. Subsequently, monstrous creatures have risen from the watery depths of the sea and their attacks have brought all seafaring to a grinding halt.

The hero, now a member of the Inquisition, is sent out to find out how to stop the chaos caused by these creatures from the deep. His quest begins with rumors that the pirates who frequent the southern islands are the only ones who know a way to get rid of the creatures once and for all and end their reign of terror.
  • With an all-new pirate-based theme, Risen 2: Dark Waters aims to combine the most loved classic RPG gameplay mechanics of the original Risen with a fresh theme and setting on a huge variety of themed island locales.
  • A third-person role-playing game set in a dark and gritty universe, Risen 2: Dark Waters maintains the most immersive features of the original Risen, with multiple approaches to every challenge allowing players to shape the game world based on their own decisions. These choices will serve to unlock new paths, features and additional skills for the character.
  • Together with a highly interactive environment and a full day/night-cycle affecting countless aspects of the game world, Risen 2 will be set in the most immersive RPG game world so far.

One of PB's weakest, but still charming

I have to admit, when I first got this game at launch I absolutely hated it. In most ways it was a significant step down in quality from the first Risen. The pirate theme, while fun, completely retcons the world from before. Risen 1's melee combat was excellent, and one of PB's best, and yet for reasons I'll never understand they decided to ditch it in favor of this one, which feels uncomfortably close to Gothic 3's "who can stun lock their opponent first-system". But for all that the game has that unique charm that sets PB's games apart. The world isn't anywhere near as well designed as their past games, but it's pretty and filled with fun characters. There's some fun abilities as well, like being able to train your very own pet monkey to steal for you. Unfortunately, there are only two faction choices this time, with one having the clear advantage in weaponry. Also, Risen 1's creative magic system is replaced by voodoo, which doesn't fulfill half of its promise. Still, Risen 2 offers a fun pirate-themed RPG journey if you can look past its many faults. Your mileage may vary, but if you enjoy pirate settings there's a good chance you'll get at least some enjoyment from this one. Be sure to look up the "AntiWarp" mod which fixes the ugly "morphing" trees and bushes bug.

A Disappointing Sequel

The original Risen was a game after my own heart. It was much of what I loved about Gothic with some streamlined fixes and upgrades. Risen 2, however, was none of that. The universe was reinvented, the combat system is horrific, the voice acting/script is all tongue-in-cheek, and the animations while the characters are talking is just over-the-top silly. I don't recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed Gothic and Risen.

Good Game but play on easy mode

This game is ok apart the combat which is to be expected from these game devs. While better than Risen 1, still has the major flaws of enemies interrupting your attack but you can't interrupt their attack. There are some skills that theoretically should let you do this but either are broken or I can't figure out how to trigger them. Some enemy have fast attacks that will consistently stop your attacks and they will always wait and attack every time you decide to attack. You will see. Really annoying. I hardly suggest you do yourself a favor and play the game on easy. It feels just right on that mode and all the skills, experience points, items, were just enough for that mode.

PB's worst is still really damned good.

To start this off, I'll say this: It's not as good as Risen. It's likely the worst game PB's ever done. But that's like saying the room made out of solid gold lost a single gold brick. It's still a friggin' room of gold. Nearly everything you'd expect from a good PB game, and from a good European RPG is here. It's got an amazing art style that the technical side can't match up to. It's got a phenomenally fun hand-crafted world to explore, but the mechanics involved in everything that goes on in the world are a bit clumsy. The characters are interested, but are shoddily animated and their models aren't very good. It's everything you expect from a good ERPG. The problem with NAmerican RPGs and that they're frequently more polished and cling to certain norms of the industry. This keeps them from having a lot of character and they lose sort of the indie charm that their lower-budget, European counterparts have in spades. The combat system that many complain about isn't actually awful. It's serviceable, and I didn't think it any better or worse than RIsen's system. It's just different. Have a companion with you at all times, as it was intended, and it's fine. Still difficult, but not unfair. And all your companions are memorable, particularly Patty and the gnome, the foul-mouthed gnome that learned to speak English from pirates. It's very clear, however, that PB wanted to do a pirate-themed game, and they reinvented the game world of Risen to do so. Risen 1 was more of a 'one size fits all' fantasy setting, though the change is actually explained pretty damned well, though, save for the fact that shields have apparently disappeared entirely... Just to add as a small thing... you can't interact with things as much as you could in previous PB games. No chair sitting, no going through the process to create a sword. Stuff like that. It took me about 30 hours to beat this game, doing most of the content. If you want a good time and know what you're getting, have at it.
