RiME

If you are looking for a story to spend a day on, interesting puzzles, all accompanied by marvellous soundtrack. This is an extremely good game to do so. There is no combat, text or voice acting, but it has proven to be far more engaging through its show-don't-tell method of storytelling. The game is only slightly, and very occasionally marred by janky camera-movement/controls. My advice is to play it with a controller, as it was clearly made for that setup. The camera sometimes takes you out of the experience, as it hides the solution to a puzzle due to unfortunate placing, or the controls sometimes respond to an angle you can't quite enter with a keyboard. The story itself is simple, and metaphorical in many parts, but in the end most things will make sense. There is also a very good interview with the creative director called 'rime and reason', but you're advised not to read it before playing. It was however very much a one-time experience for me, as once you know the puzzles, other than finding every secret and easter egg, that is it for me. I would say it's current €35,- asking price is a bit much for a short, one time-experience, but I would happily pay half that. And the other half as well if it came with a separate soundtrack.

This is not a bad game at all but its damaged one or two major flaws. The graphics are beautiful , the soundtrack is heartwarming, the concept of the game is inteligent but the freaking camera ruins it( at least for me). the constant jugling with the camera angle breaks what else would be a seamless beatutiful playthrough. The camera should be fixed behind the character by default with the option of looking oround. It would surelly facilitate the puzzle solving. Drives me mad to know that i'd love to play this game to the end but i wont do it because its frustrating, instead of enjoying the game, being constantly agravated by the camera. maybe later, when the fix the damn thing. So ... almost there but not quite. -7/10-

Beat this game in two days on my ps4. You can tell the developer tried their best to make a great game, but their lack of experience shows. There were one or two parts that had good puzzles, but mostly they're just moving blocks and looking through keyhole stone things. And for some reason, you gotta yell at all the torches and jugs. All in all, it's a fairly forgettable game but I appreciate the effort they put into making it. (I'm also a little salty that I missed almost all the collectibles. There's no way to go back and look for them once you pass them in the story.)

A marvelous gorgeous game. An explorer and a storyteller more than a puzzle game; you're not liable to find yourself stuck, so if you're looking for conundrums that will frustrate you for days then you're in the wrong place. But there are hidden things to find, and the story unfolds organically and wordlessly. I heartily recommend it.

This could have been just the game I needed at the moment, but my enjoyment started deteriorating quickly. At first it was that neither the use/pick up, nor the shout function is not implemented smoothly: after playing about two hours I still fail to pick up or use objects on the first try. It looks like to do it properly you have to get very close to the object while facing it, wait a second, then press the corresponding key. Throwing objects can be rather annoying too. And then there is the question of making the character to hang off a ledge before him. Looks like he only does that in particular places. The next thing is rather traditional for console games (and this one, if not a port, is at least a console game in its heart, which is not a bad thing per se), and that's the camera being wonky at times. Well, at least that doesn't happen often. The puzzles themselves are rather poor and obscure, but I could tolerate that and all of the other points I mentioned above... if it wasn't for a specific attempt by the developers to make the game challenging after realising the puzzles like these won't hold the player off the goal for long. I have now idea who is that brave soul that decided it was entertaining to run around pathways over a chasm in darkness with very little indication of where you can possibly go (which is only visible when you are running), but I would love to see that person try doing the same in real life. Coupled with an absense of a proper save system, you can imagine how "fun" this is. Not to mention that if you stop, it gets almost completely dark and you might lose any idea of where could you be at the moment. By the looks, the music and the general atmosphere, this is pretty much a masterpiece. I'd give it 5 stars easily despite the typical console game flaws I mentioned in the beginning. But this running around and falling off ledges in darkness killed the game for me, sorry. Not sure if I'll ever going to give it another try.
