Mina’s rescue from the end of the first game is cut dramatically short and she and primate pal Jep are left again on the mysterious island to fend for themselves! Mina needs to dress her wounds and keep safe against the local wildlife, but now she has the assistance of the player controlled Jep who can fit in smaller spaces, move deftly through the jungle and even communicate with other animals in their bid to survive. Using even more combinations of items throughout the island, Mina and Jep will need to recover from their traumatic circumstances and find another way, any way, off the mysterious island!

A worthy sequel

I've waited a long time for this game to make it to GOG after having played the original a few years back. The story picks up right where the last game ended, and we're thrust back into the same island, which has been faithfully recreated and expanded upon. The inventory management system is basically the same. The big difference is that now we control both Mina and Jep separately, even though they share the same inventory. At first I didn't like that this was the case, it seemed unrealistic, and it is, but it ended up being a blessing in disguise. The fact is that this new game tries to re-invent a wheel that was working just fine a few times. The result is a lot of busy work, such as switching from Jep to Mina to Jep to Mina (forcing you to watch a very short cutscene every time) , making every single piece of pottery you require, or playing mini-games that can be very hit and miss. So, not having to trade inventory items between the two protagonists was greatly appreciated. This is compounded by a fatal flaw that I'm not sure is the game's fault. It may be a technical issue that gets resolved in a coming patch, I hope so, at least, , but at the time that I played this game, and am writing this review, the game feels laggy. The mouse moves slowly and choppily, the camera rotation moves slowly and choppily, and to be honest, that takes a LOT of the fun out of the game. I have oscillated between giving this a flat out one star, because I hated that choppy feel so much, to giving it a five star, because in the end the story did grip me and deliver a satisfying conclusion that stuck with me. A three star would be the fair rating for me to give it at this time, as the technical issues are balanced out by a game that mostly works from the puzzle and the story perspectives. Not always, but mostly. I ended up with a 4 star review rating, because in the end, I did enjoy the journey, frustrations and all.

Maybe not for everyone, but great for us

I got it because it was a sequel to an "educational" game that was good, interesting and well done. Then my granddaughter saw me playing it and climbed in my lap. She loved Mina and Jep and getting to play as one or the other. Now years later, she's played it with me several times and now my younger grandkids are playing it with me. Spending that kind of time together is priceless. And the game works well too (but get as much clay as you can and don't fritter it away) using the original's gaming system so no new learning curve. Still enjoying it after several years of replay.

Lovely experience

I really liked Mina, her skillset, the lovely pre-rendered backgrounds and the (partially optional) crafting is done with so much detail! The endings were rather bleak and I have to admit that it took my by surprise after such an overall feel-well experience. The....otherworldly twist was cool too!

Great Old Game

Never got to play this when it first came out, but after having an urge to play some older point and click based adventure games, I decided to install this along with the first title. After having finished the first title, I promptly started this one. I think it is pretty neat that you are on the same island, so things will be familiar to you however, with the changes that you made from the first title. So you will know your way around the lsland. This game has wondeful elements of story telling and a semi complicated system of crafting that makes you use trial and error to accomplish tasks.
