I also remember not knowing what to do! This game brought back some strange memories for me. I have no idea how many years ago it was I played this game but I can remember one thing about it: Being Astoundingly Confused. This game had me rushing around in a hurried frantic panic screaming at the screen "OH OH AHHH WHAT DO I DO NOW? AHHHHHHHHH!!!! WHY DID THIS HAPPEN? WHAT??" and having no idea which of my actions mattered or how or why. This seems like one of those games that GOG.com usually has humbly listed as 1.99 (but honestly some of these games, very much including Restaurant Empire should be listed for 50 cents) How is this listed as $5.99? I laughed when I read the other reviews because I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who had the same experience. I wonder if gog.com will ever get restaurant tycoon 2 or any other similar games (was there ever a restaurant tycoon 3? who knows,) It's funny how many blasts to the past I find on GOG.com and feel the need to review from the memories.

Resturaunt empire, like most simulation games failed to hold my interest for very long, but that is not unusual since simulations are not where my main interest lies. That said, while I was playing it, this game proved to be both addicting and very fun. The level of micromanagement possible was enjoyable and added overall the game itself was quite engaging. It is certainly worth the asking price even if you, like me, are only going to pop it in every once in a while for a diversion.

You can have a Tampon Bucket.

This still has the same bugs that my cd copy has. That means no cold spaghetti recipe, and some of the missions hang up fatally. This means you can't win without cheating. Sandbox mode is still a lot of fun though.

For a management game from the height of the Tycoon era (shortly following the massive success of Rollercoaster Tycoon) this little gem breaks the most widely accepted rule. It's fun. The surprisingly heartfelt story focuses on a young chef taking over his family restaurant and taking on the massive corporate restaurant chain. The delivery is light hearted without being vacuous and still manages to carry a message of supporting the underdog. The game itself starts a little too easy, the first couple levels are pretty much just tutorials, but the difficulty quickly boils up. As with the best management games the heart of the game is finding the little jagged edge in your well oiled machine and smoothing it to gleaming sheen. Here the game is modeled to an admirable depth. There is always something that can be improved. Perhaps building a new dumbwaiter or hiring more waiting staff to speed up serving times. Perhaps adding a new recipe will revitalise interest in your restaurant? Theres always something you can do to squeeze out a slightly bigger profit or that extra restaurant star. It also includes a wide selection of recipes to try for yourself if you are left inspired by the game and don't mind risking third degree burns and the smell of asparagus.
