Guns and spells, together again. 3.5/5

(GOG-sized excerpt from my 2003 review.) Stepping through a doorway you find a hulking robot turning to aim its oversized guns in your direction. Your Manoeuvre hot-key is set to Warp Time for emergencies such as this and you activate it. With your sudden advantage over the robot in reflexes and movement you quickly get out of the way before it can open fire on you, and set "To Salt" as your Offensive power while you move. This deadly power is hard to aim from a distance, but your manoeuvrability has allowed you to get more than close enough. The robot freezes in place with a crackling noise, and then rapidly crumbles into small clouds of salt before your eyes. Entering a tall room, you spot a pair of unarmoured guards patrolling the walkway above. You cast a swarm of locusts at one of them, and duck out of view for a few seconds until you are able to cast another at the second. Lacking full-body powered battle armour to protect them, the guards are susceptible to this attack and both fall dead in seconds. Climbing the ladder to the bodies, you pause to Resurrect each guard -- they will now fight for you until they die. You follow the walkway to a door and open it: two more regular guards, and one in battle armour. You cast more locusts at one of the guards, and use your power of 'Insist' to temporarily convert the armoured guard to your cause. You step away and let the door close to avoid being attacked by the third guard, and listen for the gunshots to cease indicating (most likely) that your armoured guard is victorious. Entering the room once more you open fire to kill the coerced guard before the effect wears off. Provided that none of the bodies were in any way dismembered in the fight, you now have three new bodies to add to your Resurrected team. As you exit the far side of the room, gunfire breaks out behind you... it sounds like someone found out that it's hard to to sneak up behind you when your back is covered by trigger-happy walking-dead...

A great FPS from the late 90s

The game didn't become as popular as Half Life, Unreal or Quake but it's a solid and original shooter. The playing mechanics is fine, level design much better than Quake 2, interesting and unique story. One of those games which you want to complete to see how it ends, not just pointless going through similar levels like in many other games of that era.

Underrated gem

First of all: Thanks GOG! I've been waiting forever to play this game again. I did not finish it due to DX issues in the past and now I have a second chance. About the game, it came out - at least for me - near Half-life release, and maybe that's why it didn't have the attention it deserved from some magazines I was reading by that time. Requiem has a different perspective from the regular FPS with aliens / zombies / army setup we are so used and fatigued to play. A fallen angel with a revenge path to follow, magical powers to learn, and guns, lots of guns to blow all kind of enemies. Sometimes punishing - not even close to From Software, don't be afraid - sometimes glitchy, you never get tired to find out what's next and for the ones like me that believe gameplay and fun win in favor or graphics for such a dated game, it's going to be a joyful ride. I'm buying it from GOG right now and can't wait to blow the dust off from this title, install and play it again. A sometimes broken masterpiece that aged well and deserve a second and a third chance. By the heavens give us a remake!

About Time

About time you started releasing "good old games" again GOG. Good to see you go back to your roots once in a while. What can I say about this gem? Old-school Quake-style shooter with some bugs/issues. If you are a 90's style shooter gamer then you will be right at home with this game. Really nothing more to be said.

Not Half Life With Magic.

Really not sure why people are saying that apart from some guilty pleasure nostalgia. Apart from maybe the idea, I can't think of a single good thing to say about this game. Awful visuals even for its time, terrible level design, awful sound effects, cringe story and high difficulty for all the wrong reasons in a way that makes blood 2 look good. Not the worst shooter I've played but it's up there.
