Description
“Regalia - Royal Edition” is the have-it-all version of warmly received tactical RPG “Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs”. In this special edition you will not only enjoy the base game, but it also comes with two cool expansions: The Unending Grimoire and Paragons and Pajamas. You’ll get new playable heroes, new shopkeepers, new cosmetic options for your favourite characters, more items, more battlegrounds, and... more!

“Regalia: Of Men And Monarchs” is an RPG full of challenging combat and exciting adventures. Create your party of distinct individuals and get to work! There's a lot to be done if you are to rebuild your kingdom.

Enjoy the beautiful hand-drawn graphics, lose yourself in the original orchestral soundtrack composed by Game Audio Factory (of Furi and the Endless series fame), and go adventuring in the untamed regions of the land of Ascalia!

Your story begins in somewhat unexpected circumstances. Who would have thought that after your father passed away you would inherit… a wondrous kingdom far, far away? Unfortunately as soon as you arrive in Ascalia you find out the kingdom is drowning in terrible debt. Now, through some good old fashioned adventuring, you have to return your family seat to its former glory, help out your new subjects, and repay the kingdom’s massive debt!

“Regalia: Of Men And Monarchs” is a cool tactical RPG and a Kickstarter success. It was funded by gamers who, just like us, believe that we need to have more good tactical role-playing games. In the end, it was made to be everything we ourselves want from an honest RPG game.

So, will you defeat all the rats, bandits, monsters, and debt collectors? Or will your ruined kingdom fall into an even worse ruin? If you won’t succeed it will be the world’s first ruined ruin. And that’s just the worst.
  • Royal Edition gets you the base game and two very cool expansions: The Unending Grimoire and Paragons and Pajamas!
  • Robust turn-based battles with varied objectives and lots of viable strategies
  • 6 various regions to explore, each filled with battles, adventures, bosses and more!
  • More than 20 unique characters to meet, recruit or befriend. Foster relationships and create the ultimate team of misfits!
  • All you need to be a successful king: town management, diplomacy, expeditions
  • A light-hearted story with tons of humour and a fair amount of epicness
  • Over 30 hours of gameplay
  • Huge replayability factor: you won’t discover all the content in just one playthrough
  • Craft new, powerful weapons
  • Beautiful graphics with hand-drawn 2D backgrounds
  • Orchestral soundtrack composed by Game Audio Factory (Endless Legend, Endless Space, Furi)
  • Professional English voice acting
  • Samurai dwarves!

Lighthearted TRPG with tons of character

I didn't expect too much going in, but damn...I was really hooked after the first few hours (currently around 50 and still not finished). The game is amazing, not perfect obviously, but very VERY much worth the money and a steal while discounted. Let’s get the BAD out of the way... only 2 complaints that I can really mention: one is that the campaign is based on a timer and while it makes perfect sense in the lore, it’s still annoying for me and I'm sure others. Second thing is, of course game balance...for a first game from a tiny team its actually quite good, but it really depends how good you are at tactical games like this...I'm bad at them and I find this game quite easy, so just don't expect some big challenge. Sure, there might be other nitpicks that some more “entitled” players complain about like “omg you have a 2 second loading screen” when the game transitions from one screen to another…but come the F on…I swear people complain about the most insignificant sht…ugh. Other than that the game is outstanding: Story is ok, but the characters really makes it shine, all of them are well voice acted (not fully, there is a lot of text in between cutscenes) , the humor is excellent, lighthearted and yet very well written and with a dose of self-awareness that I love. Music is great and sounds in general are really good, with things like attacks sounds sounding very powerful. Graphics are beautiful, hand drawn art tho animations are a bit "simple". Big one is COMBAT/Gameplay of course and I’m having a ton of fun with it. There are a ton of characters each very different (in both their abilities and personality) and combining them will lead to different playstyles with a lot of “combos” to kill enemies way faster than they can kill you. On top of that you have a light kingdom/character-reputation building game in between the combat, where you upgrade buildings and build relationships with characters. So yeah, overall, I love it and highly recommend buying it.

A lot of potential and missed chances

I'm an avid roleplaying game and adventure game fan, but I had never heard of Regalia before GOG had an advertisement on it. Turn-based tactical combat? Relationship building? Town building? Yes please! A weak and dumb protagonist? Ehm. A predictable story? Oh. Unskippable cut scenes? Wait wait wait. Annoying npc's? Ok stop! Too much references to other games? I SAID STOP. Ok, let's start again. The story is simple: you find out you have claim to a castle and its surrounding territory, but you're also in debt because of this. You have to complete certain quests within a certain timeframe to pay off the installments, so you have to wisely invest your time in actually going out and completing quests, building up the town surrounding the castle, and spend time with npc's to increase their bonusses. This sounds like a good mechanic, but I quickly found myself trying to skip all the talking. It's just not interesting what the npc's have to tell you, and the protagonist is the standard low-esteem dumbass. Not a great combination. The combat is ok, but it always feels like the enemy is stronger and can sometimes overpower you out of the blue. Meaning the enemy doesn't win via skill or tactics, but just that they have better skills. Put the combat on the fastest setting, otherwise you can go get a cup of coffee while the enemy completes his turn. Ok, so the combat and story has little to offer, is there anything else? Well, they snuck a lot of references to other games into Regalia. Well snuck is not the right term. The abundance gets annoying real quick, and makes it feel Regalia can't stand on its own. Which is maybe the end of it. A lot of cool ideas, but the execution falls short. The game does look good, with clear and crisp graphics, but that's the only thing going for it.

Frustrating potential

On the tin, this is a tactical RPG with kingdom simulation elements paired with some visual novel storytelling, so it should be great. In practice, I find it tedious to get anywhere at all, and it's filled with lots of frustrating game design and UI choices. For example, the game explains that characters each have a passive that shapes how they play, and a set of moves, but the only place to see these seem to be in combat itself, so it's difficult to get a sense of what a character can do until you've seen them fight once. A lot of the game works like that. It wants to have the "every fight is a challenge with carefully limited save options and information hiding!" of rogue-likes and souls-likes, but those tend to be quick and allow you to learn the game on repeated playthroughs, while this is slow and patient and has no real random elements (other than wildly frustrating RNG in fights that will let you miss over and over again with no real indication as to why) while also having the more stately "Take your time and get to know your characters" of many rpgs without the chance to have unimportant fights, grinding or even to really look at the details of how your character actually works in combat. The game presents itself in an open manner that's a lie. You need to complete X quests per chapter, and you can do them in any order you like; you can go into the dungeons in any order you like, and you can build your city in any order you like, but you're not going to do the level 5 dungeon before the level 2 dungeon, and the only way to get resources is to go through dungeons, so you just go through a linear sequence of dungeons and build up your settlement in a certain order. It's a game that knows the shape of what it's supposed to be without knowing how to do it. The writing's not terrible, the characters are fine, but the gameplay is frustrating and off. If you really like the genre, get it on sale, but if you're like me, you'll find it disappointing.

A persona clone worth your time.

I am not one to review games. I am not one to review on GoG no less. This is my first GoG Review, and I cannot pick a better game to review. Tl;WR (To long, Won't read): The closest a good Persona clone we will get ever. Odd combat that takes a bit to learn, but is ofset by great characters, awesome writing, and a large world easy to be sucked into. HARD 8/10, by if you can, keep an open mind, you will not regret it. I bought this game on a whim. I saw something about building a Kingdom and good characters so....I bought it. This is a game that I am geuninely sad when I got towards the home streatch. There is no sequel planned for this game, and I feel that if they did, they could work on the few flaws this game has, and would relase to an easy 9/10 at minimum. So...I want to start the the bad. This game has a very odd combat system that, I still do not understand the reason behind why they did what they did. I feel it should have been streamelined, and not given rediculously high health for members and monsters, as well as powers that vary widely in some aspects. There is also a data leak issue I have, as it will randomly skip and slow down here and there. ALso there is this fishing mini game that....I mean its a good way to earn money, but it can be tedious if you do not have the time. Now onto the good. About everything else. It essentially plays like a Persona game. There is a goal that you must reach by a certain deadline. While you work towards that goal, you can build buildings, form social links with the inhabitants, and go on dungeon raids. It really allows you to spend your time as you like, and it does not really limit what you are able to do. All in all, I had fun with this game. I am distrought there will be no sequel, as I feel a sequel would be able to solve the few issues I have. THis game is worth your time. 8/10 if you can get it at discount, even better.

A rather nice game.

It is a simple, well-made, tactical turn-based RPG with a lot of things going for it. Good gameplay and RPG elements, good artstyle, interesting characters, interesting story and really good voice acting. I'd say that there are only two noticeable problems: unskipable cutscenes and some fights were, in my opinion, harder, more annoying than they needed to be. But overall, it is a solid game which I can wholehesrtedly recommend.
