Red Faction

Almost totally destructible environment; you can blow holes between areas of the map that are not pre-calculated. This is a lot of fun; I wish more games had this. The game itself is an OK shooter which holds up averagely for a game of its time..

I understand if asking for subtitles is unreasonable for old games, but just because they forgot about accessibility then doesn't mean we can't have it now. Same thing that prevented me from playing Assassin's Creed. More importantly--for the gameplay that feels fairly tight even now in 2024, my game came to a smashing halt when trying to lower the submarine continually led to the submarine exploding. If this is a known bug, why does it still have it? I don't want to have to mod the game or download some fix from a 3rd-party website to continue.

Was fun until stealth level. Even if you are noticed by guards/cameras you are stuck using the pistol even if the guards you kill drop different weapons or you find the security/armory room. I only got it because it was cheap, I paid £1.79 and got maybe a couple of hours out of it. I downloaded something called Alpine faction to play it with modern resolutions.

I had fond memories of Red Faction, remembering the very innovative level destruction and the weapon that could shoot through walls. However, after replaying it for a bit, i was amazed at how poor the AI was, how clunky everything was and how dated it felt while playing. This one is best left in your memories, folks.

Despite being advertised as compatible with Windows 10 the game will crash less than a minute into a level. The only way to play it is by using a mod called Pure Red Faction but it has been rendered incompatible due to the Windows 10 Anniversary update. Additionally, there are game breaking problems with the game engine caused by a high frame rate yet there is no way to lock the framerate despite the v-sync checkbox in the launcher or the Nvidia control panel. It is advertised as compatible for Windows 10 so it should run out of the box on Windows 10 without relying on a now dysfunctional mod. If you are using Windows 10 Anniversary, check the Pure Red Faction site to see if they have created a compatible version, otherwise the game won't work.
