A atmospheric platforming masterpiece

To this day this game is just has fun and a masterpiece as it was when i played it on my windows 98 when i was but a wee lad. What i didn't notice then was just how well made the game was from the beautifully crafted pixel art to the surprisingly soothing soundtrack that has continued in rayman games to this day( a good example is the upcoming rayman legends) Overall it was a good start to a great franchise thats still going strong.

Fantastic game

This is one of my favorite games and it doesn't only include the original Rayman game. You also get the Rayman Desginer, Mapper and Rayman by his fans. So you can even create your own levels!

One of the finest platformers ever made

I will start with a reminder: Rayman Forever has had some music and cutscenes cut from the first Rayman release. The music can very easily be restored to its full glory (search GOG's forum, thread is pinned), and the intro is available as a bonus download (outro is still missing :/). As for the actual game, although it is not a pinnacle of originality, it is an extremely well made platformer with brilliant level design, which tries many things along the way and do them well. The difficulty could use some lowering or fine tuning here and there, and accessibility is a bit low in some areas for today standards (save system for instance), but other than that it is close to a perfect game, and still one of the best. If I had to compare this game to Rayman Origins and Legends, I would say that this Rayman is a much, much more intense and rewardful game ! Intense because the levels are much more packed, the camera is much closer and the controls more tight, accurate, deep. Rewardful because secrets (extra lives and cages) actually take some dedication to find.

A great port of a great game

Rayman is one of my favorite game series of all time. My favorite is actually Hoodlum Havoc, but the 1st game is great. Great Soundtrack, Good gameplay. This version of the game contains the original Rayman, and two expansions called Rayman Designer, and Rayman By His Fans. This game runs on DOSBox, and runs pretty well. Don't worry, you don't have to input all the text to play the game, it does it itself. This specific version reminds me of the PlayStation version, and it's great. The big problem with this version of the game is the Soundtrack is not complete. some tracks aren't in the game, and because of that, play different tracks. The reasoning for this is because they needed space for the two expansions, and removed some tracks. However, the whole soundtrack comes in MP3 Format, so its in my opinion, a good deal. 4 Stars.
