A director's cut that for once makes a significant difference, with new levels and the return of co-op – although the underlying game is still slightly flawed.

Raiden V tries to add something new the shoot 'em up genre which is admirable, but unfortunately most of the ideas don't live up to expectations. The Cheer system may have worked better if you could let spectators view your game, and the running commentary is like trying to listen to couple arguing at back of a bus when you're at the front and have someone playing loud techno music on their phone right next to you. For a shoot 'em up there is a lot of content and the main mechanics have clearly been honed to perfection over the last twenty five years, making this a good, solid entry to the series.

It had been a while since I last played a Raiden game and Raiden V: Director's Cut was pretty enjoyable after reacquainting myself with the series, my eyesight issues aside.  The fact you can beat the game on any difficulty can seem a tad off putting, but this is actually a good concept for newer players so they can experience the story then increase the difficulty when they start to improve so they can get a better ending.  That combined with the boss challenges give quite a bit of replayability  to the game and being able to take things a stage at a time makes it great to play in short bursts.  Overall a pretty good entry for the series.

It isn't as good as Raiden III.IV

This game isn't Raiden, it isn't an arcade shooter, it isn't very fun either. Its overpriced. I just can believe I wasted nearly $15 buying it and its full price is worse. $34.99. I see why people prefer Raiden III/IV.

If it goes on sale for maybe 5€

A bullet storm reminiscent of old arcade games designed to be hard to master but you could insert coins for another life. With this, you just press start though. It's an okay bullet hell shoot'em up. There's different ships to pick from, a variety of weapons, but I found the graphics to be kind of mushy and hard to read in game that requires a lot of precision, and the writing and voice acting is pretty rough and uninteresting, and it plays through the entire game. Fairly fun starting throughout playing. I do not recommend buying the game for 25€, if it goes on sale for maybe 5€ it might be worth it.

Many distractions and it has bugs

An OK game, but there's a lot of dialogue amidst a lot of bullets flying across the screen, and at stage 7 the game stops working and even loading the save, it doesn't return to normal!

Decent Shooter with a mediocre story

An interesting but ultimately failed attempt to put a story into a 2D shooter. You may find the game more enjoyable with muted voice. The gameplay is just the same as any decent 2D shooter. I don't know about the quality of the port since I played in on console.

Ok RAIDEN if....

Ok RAIDEN shmup as long as you turn off the annoying dialogue. It is probably too long for people that really play for score and 1CC. But if you catch it on sale it is a decent game. If you don't have Crimzon Clover I would reccommend getting that first.
