    Description
The follow-up to SSI's Apple II classic Questron and spiritual cousin to EA's Legacy of the Ancients, Questron II picks up the story years after its predecessor ends.

This time, Mesron the Great Wizard sends you on a journey into the past to prevent the Mad Sorcerors from creating the Evil Book of Magic. Excellent plot, puzzles, and many nice touches (e.g. the casinos you can gamble in) make this one of the best solo RPGs ever and a true successor to Legacy of Ancients in spirit.

As the second title in the Questron series, this game follows the same basic formula as the original. You start out as a lowly peasant with only a few gold coins in your pocket and a bad attitude to defend yourself. By stumbling around the countryside and fighting hordes of creatures, you gain wealth, experience, and title.

Questron II spans two continents, Landor and the Realm of Sorcerers. Additionally, there are the requisite tombs, castles, and dungeons. In the first Questron, your goal was to defeat the evil Wizard Mantor. Now, in Questron II, the good Wizard Mesron has sent you back in time before the Book of Magic was created. Your goal is to defeat the six Mad Sorcerers before they can create the book.

Fond memories; absolutely holds up today

The thing I remember the most about the Questron games is how playable they were. Some other RPG’s of the time had mechanics steeped in obscurity and/or requiring physical books, length menus, and laborious load times. Not so for Questron (and if you can find it, the Legend of Blacksilver.) I played the originals on C64 and Amiga systems, and more recently through emulation. I found it just as enjoyable today. There is everything you want in a game of this era: dungeon crawling, random encounters and map exploration, spells and arcade-style fighting, a few fun (but humanely solvable) mysteries, and of course gambling. If you’re too good at gambling to afford better armor, watch out, because the town guard is going come get you.

    Older but good old RPG

It has been over 30 years since I played this on an Atari ST but I remember having a lot of fun with Questron 2. It had a similar feel and gameplay to the early Ultima games, so much that the publisher reached a settlement with Origin Systems/Richard Garriott. I just bought it from GOG and will give it a try and see how well it holds up today.

This game needs more Love on GOG

I am stunned to see Questron II having little review love on GOG. I thought this and Phantasie where the two best series SSI ever did. A deep, long game experience worthy of RPG fan. An amazing story, great gameplay and such challenging puzzles, I can't highly recommend this one enough. I am a HUGE SSI fan and being able to buy these has made my day, my week, my month, and maybe my year!
