Great title from Spiderweb

A classic retro indie RPG title. I have to agree with other reviewers this is no standard Spiderweb experience I had so far (did play some Geneforge + Avadon games), but unlike some others I consider it an improvement actually. Focused on story + fortress management (getting resources), which suits me better than focus on combat (there is still lots of combat in the game, but it is not such a dominant feature as in previous Spiderweb titles). It reminded me on Eschalon series, this is more like it. Story is interesting with a nice twist in the end, plus exploring and choosing sides all the time makes it quite enjoyable. Hail to Haven and Queen Sharyn !

Surprisingly Rich and Complex

Most of these negative reviews seem to be just a reaction to Spiderweb trying something new. Yes, you have to finish each dungeon in one go, without retreating, in order to gain XP. Yes the monsters respawn if you leave and come back. This actually makes the game far more challenging! You can't just spam fireballs and healing potions and then run back to town. Combat is highly tactical. Resources are limited. The character development is actually far more complex than it appears and the game world is surprisingly rich. The story is highly political and involves ethical decision making. I've put many, many hours into Avernum but I might like this game even more. Queen's Wish is a totally unique RPG and I love it!

An exciting new beginning

As the first entry in a new SpiderWeb franchise, this title offers quite a few new ideas and gameplay mechanics in comparison to the established series. If you like SpiderWeb games, there's a good chance you'll like this one as well! What's great: * Inventory management has been streamlined and it's so much better for it - no more running around with an open inventory evaluating the objects in the game world * Combat is more tactical, resource management in combat is a new and interesting take (your action points don't refill themselves automatically, instead you get 1 point back per character after each skirmish) * Open world: The design of the world gives you a lot of freedom in regards to where you go and when you tackle quests * Decisions you get to make as a ruler as well as the messages from "home" * No more grinding for experience: Dungeons and battle areas have one boss that you have to defeat to clear the area. All in all the game feels a lot less tedious than some places in the Avadon series, for instance * New tactical opportunities due to differently sized creatures What could be improved in a sequel: * Currently there are no companions. You can create new characters with different abilities, however they have no personality. I have never bothered creating new characters... I miss the companions from Avadon - they were great! * The default attack sound of mage wands/staffs (it's so annoying ;) ) * Character development could be more complex Imho the game is a great addition to the SW catalog. Very much looking forward to see what direction this series is going :)

What an awful experience

I liked, like many other, previous games from SW but this one is just awfully unfun. It is just worse in so many aspects, needlessly clunky, even compared with older titles. Building up the Fortress sounded interesting at first but the execution is just abysmal. The flow is sooooo hindered, you cant even buy health potions, no, you have to find bottles to refill! How would such an alchemist shop even work! Everything is dumbed down but it doesn't improve the flow, in the contrary. Thanks, but no!

Good base building progression

Three-fourths of this game is one of my favorite Spiderweb titles. The fortress reconstruction system is great, and a big improvement on earlier games. But I found the last act boring, and dropped the difficulty to casual so I could just get it done. I got more than 40 hours of great entertainment out of the game, so I'll recommend it. Just be aware that parts are really clever, and other parts feel like work.
