Game of my childhood..

If you don't mind the clunky labyrinthic level design it is still a nice game to play in 2019 - just don't try with the nvidia RTX mod - its not that great and it runs under 40 fps.

Cyborg zombies, what's not to love?

I always loved the Quake 2 story and setting. Don't know if as much as Doom, but I've always had a serious crush on the Strogg. They have that horde single-consciousness feeling inspired by the Borg from Star Trek, but much more gruesome. Destroy them, or be assimilated. They're one of my favorite FPS villains, and playing this back in the day was amazing. Quake 2 really was genre setting in its day, and despite being quite dated for today's standards, it's still a lot of fun to play to this day. When I bought this GOG pack I had the opportunity to try out both mission packs of the game for the first time. And I gotta say The Reckoning won't disappoint you. Levels are great and I really liked the few additions it brought to Quake 2. Ground Zero is more of a mixed bag for me. For the hardcore Q2 fans out there, it's certainly more challenging, but levels aren't as fun as in the previous mission pack, and it looks a bit less polished. Overall, I had a blast remembering how amazing Quake 2 was back in the day. Don't let the Makron win, kick some cyborg ass!

No CTF Bots :( But..

Hello, I will start with the fact that the game now has bots for TD and DM, unfortunately not for CTF. Aside from that big disappointment, still the new "Enhanced" version does alot to improve the game. Now you get all the items and weapons from all the expansion packs in the same game! Yes thats right! The game models are also enhanced including better textures, though I would like more detail on the enemies. You might still need a texture pack for the maps, but if you want to keep the original feeling you gonna be fine. The menu got enhanced as well, and it feels completely natural, also giving quake 4 vibes but in a good way, and that is great and well thought by the developers, good work guys! There is now also a flashlight! and it looks as it should! no crappy lights here. (laser sight next?) The game crashed on me twice, though only when I hit the quit button sooo, who cares? Below are some suggestions, you don't need to read those, unless you are the developer (please devs, read :p) So I would like to see new game modes like gungame, wave survival against monsters and domination. Also an In-game announcer voice, same way unreal had it. Bots for all modes!!! Marine npcs that can fight strogg npcs. That would be perfect for creating new missions\maps.

it's alright.

let me get this off my chest: quake (1996) is my dear beloved and i absolutely despise the direction quake ii took. it's like alien compared to aliens: doing from an gorgeous atmospheric horror film to a military-loving action movie. uh, hard pass. but for the rest of the review i'll keep in mind that it wasn't meant to be a quake sequel, but something different. here goes: the railgun is by far the best thing about this game. it's so cool and the thing i remember most from when i played this game at in internet cafe around the release time. the particles in this game are incredible! furthermore, i do enjoy the level design - kinda cool you gotta figure out your place in this nonlinear space. however, the environments are so homogenous that it's easy to become lost. warehouses and crates aren't exactly the pinnacle of 'interesting'. that's a huge negative considering that visuals are so important to me. this game sucks in that aspect. other than the railgun, the weapons just don't feel that great compared to most fps's i've played. the enemies are mostly variations of humans, robots, and human+robots, and it's pretty stale. comparing to the original quake, i give this game a 0. in a vacuum, it's a 3.

Probably the best part of series...

Probably the best part of series, steampunk climate, interesting playground and demand enemies (I accomplished main game a few times on hard witch joy).
