Pyre

Supergiant have made their name from making wonderful stories and this is no exception. The gameplay itself is a basic concept, imagine something like nba jam but with fantasy charecters. The gameplay loop can be quite tedious near the start with ten minutes of talking and 5 minutes of actual gamplay which is the aforementioned Nba jame vire fanasy. But the gameplay is not what kept me going it was the wonderful narrative and THAT MUSIC is wonderful. The writing is top notch and made me feel invested in charecters and the world they're in. Another plus is the story is alot more upfront compared to supergiant's previous work Transistor which had a lot more subtle story telling which is fine for something like transistor but this game would suffer from that form of story telling. Guess i better wrap this up, Pyre is a wonderful game with an awsome Story and just as great soundtrack. It gets a 4/5 stars from me, because it does have some pacing and gameplay loop flaws near the start but are very much ironed out near the end but never really go away but the story was so good i wanted to keep playing.

So are you up to the task or are you just an imposter, eyeing thy chance to run away from your so called friends? You shall hear now a word from the one that came before you, no going around that, I am afraid. The one that came before you? About his successfulness we would not blather. He was pathetic. Much as the rest, the lot of them. You though... come closer! Yes! You look promising. I can see some potencial in you. Do not let thyself be swayed then by some of the outrageous thoughts of your predecessors. Let's see, if you can now steel your mind against their foul speeches. [i]Exile:[/i] In my opinion, there's a difference between scanning the text with your eyes and reading. Reading means savoring the words with joy, gulping them with curiosity. Reading means remembering all the little pieces of lore to put together in the end the wholesome and beautiful mosaic of a brand new world. Reading means imagining all the places, feeling emotions towards all the characters, living through all the events. Reading means going around the sentences twice and thrice, if you do not feel like letting it go just yet. Reading means beeing able to open up your mind. [i]Voice:[/i] So, what does reading means to you, Reader?!

A review in response to recent events. For the uninitiated, Supergiant has been stringently and anti-union as of late to disastrous results. This review can be changed.

I'll start with the good... the graphics are well done and the music is spot on. The creativity in both the story line and created language are fantastic. The gameplay and dynamics are enjoyable to a point... This brings me to the bad... the biggest mistake any gaming developer can make is to confuse difficulty with challenge. The misconception is for a game to be challenging and enjoyable it must have a difficulty that only a pro gamer can overcome. There is nothing enjoyable about restarting a match 100 times to get both that perfect combination of skill and luck that are required to move forward. When one is presented with such a high level of difficulty that the game presents more frustration than enjoyment then it has failed at its purpose. The sole purpose of gaming is to enjoy oneself, to relax with some entertainment. The designers outcome should never be to create a game so difficult that few can or even want to finish. The difficulty should always be left to the player to select. Though there is a difficulty selection in the menu, I have noticed no effect. Should this be bugged or simply a design flaw that were fixed I would change my review. As it stands now I can only give the following advice... If you desire challenge but not contant crushing defeat, if you want to relax and destress, as it stands this is not the game for you. It has great potential but falls flat on the definition of challenging.
