The game is ok. Not terrible but not really as spectacular as it initially looked (gameplay wise). Combat is pretty straight forward. No real special moves. There is a combo attack but it's automatic and not done by pressing any certain button combination. Just basically spam the attack button, hit the enemy till they die (again lol) and you can dodge by rolling out of the way. Enemies spawn it groups and you gotta kill them before you move on. You do aquire different weapons as you go along that do behave differently.
The one thing it does pretty well is the presentation. Good graphical style and really harkens back the PS2 days.
If you like the Halloween theme you will definitely enjoy the fun and visual feast. Platforms, puzzles, dialogues... in short, everything to have fun is in this game
This was free with Amazon Prime Gaming but turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. The graphics, while not the greatest around, are colourful and have a certain charm, and there's some nice humour in the dialogue between the various characters. Gameplay is good and solid with some decent variety, combat could be tightened up but it's still great fun to play through. It took me 6 hours to complete but I could have happily spent longer in its world.
not terrible by any means, just kinda bland and short (only 6 levels). The combat couldve used a lock-on so you could to combos or something, instead just autolocking onto the nearest enemy. The skins you unlock for collectables are all really bland too imo, making collecting pretty lackluster as well. Halloween themed game is what i was looking for at the time, and this scratched that itch... up until the last level where it turns into a Christmas theme, which felt like walking into the store in October and seeing all Christmas decorations.
Pumpkin Jack is a spooky, funny platformer game where you play as Jack, the Devil's champion as he plans to make the world fall into chaos. But a human wizard is preventing that, and the mission is to kill him. Along the way you will fight monsters and creatures. This game's pretty great in making you forgot you play a villain protagonist, as the "good guys" don't seem really good, but the "bad guys" can be friendly and funny to you.
The game has 6 levels, each can take about 30 mins to an hour to beat. And those 6 levels are unique. While most of the gameplay are the classic jump-and-fight, there are variations. Like in these levels there are vehicle sections, and each are different. Like in one you just make your cart jump, but in another you are in race with knights. And the minigames are too, one level you must push a bomb using Jack's head, and another using his head to match tombstones (with pop culture references).
That combination alone is done well enough to make this simple game don't feel to repetitive. Not to mention you unlock new weapons after defeating each boss, allowing you to try out new combat skills on enemies. But I'd have to admit, sometimes the game can be a bit hard. Like in some later vehicle sections and the final boss, but maybe that's understandable.
If you're looking to play a thematic game during the Halloween or Christmas seasons, Pumpkin Jack is a game you should try. It's simple and straightforward, yet could be unique enough to not be boring. If you enjoy platformer games, you'd enjoy this title.
