Clunky, boring, frustrating

Reading the other reviews here I'm really bewildered anyone is willing to give this game a positive rating. So lets start trying to describe why this game is so awful. Controls: You can only run by pressing forward for about three seconds, which makes movement unnecessarily slow. To rotate you have to move the cursor to the edge of the screen, instead of just rotating with the mouse. This makes moving and aiming awkward, to say the least. There are some other things, but as it is always difficult to describe awful controls, lets just summarize that the controls are delayed, inprecise and slow. From what I have read even the persons who give this game a positive rating admit that the controls are bad. Repetitive: As you control only one of four party members you have to walk through level several times, which makes the game repetitive. In theory there you can tell your party members to follow you, but this feature just does not work very well. AI: A stupid AI is a common problem in many games, but this game takes the cake. Sometimes they start shooting at you, just to stop shooting and start running in circles the next moment. Sometimes they do nothing at all. Level-Design: You know how in point-and-click adventures sometimes you don't know where you can click and where not? Well, Project Eden should be called "Pixel Hunter 3D - The Game". So if you enjoy to meander aimlessly around just to find that one switch you have to push, this is your game.

Does not launch on Windows 11

Launch in a window screen with the Eidos logo. Then another black window appears and nothing happens. It would be more honest if it would be indicated on the store page that the games do not work for W11.

Game doesn't work

I tried to run the game and it shows the intro videos on a small window and then it just hangs on a black screen, I tried several times and nothing. I found no solution for it, gog refunded it.

Good game, but

On 11th hour of playing it I've found game breaking bug (In an underground mall). Most of the time I was confused about what to do next. Mechanics are cool, shooting is ok, story is sci-fi and I love most of it's puzzle elements, but it is taking long and I get myself into dead end. Yet still I prefer to keep it

Good potential, aged very poorly.

This game was released 20 years ago in 2001. I haven't played it up until now, so I'm reviewing it without nostalgia goggles. Graphics and sound are what can be expected from a game such age. To me they are just fine, so I will focus my review on gameplay. Multiple other reviews compare this with Lost Vikings, and that's a game I actually have played and really enjoyed it during my younger years. The premise of Lost Vikings is simple: it's a 2d platformer where you play as 3 characters who must navigate the levels bypassing traps and enemies using each of the character's abilities in order to reach the end together. My ultimate impression of Project Eden is that it fails to apply what was fun in Lost Vikings, and the gameplay is made even less tolerable by the game being in 3d. * Movement. Each viking had differences to their movement and it was a part of solving the puzzles. Here all characters move in the same manner, and what is worst, moving is not fun at all. Characters take time to accelerate from a snail pace, turning the camera using the mouse is funky with camera requiring some mouse movement before it even starts to turn * Combat. Each viking had a different approach to combat. Eden's combat is same for all the characters. It is some pretty low quality FPS / TPS with unexciting enemies, clunky controls and hardly any punishment for failing. All tedium, zero fun * Puzzles. This is a better part of this game. However because of level design, dated graphics and colorless artstyle I've found myself multiple times not struggling to solve the puzzle, but just locating the set pieces. And the abilities follow the trends with the movement and combat by not being very fun. 3 out of 4 characters' abilities are just being able to press buttons designated for those characters Ultimately it may have been good in 2001, but in 2021 with better alternatives it's more tedious than fun to play.
