Explore the Caribbean sea and towns in the predecessor to the best open-ended buccaneer game of all time! In this one your goal is to become the Governor.
You can choose between 4 different character nationalities from English, French, Dutch or Spanish. Along the way you decide your character's career path, and live an adventurer's life, where you will follow all assigned missions and tasks. You will be able to buy maps to hidden treasures, find secret pirate hovels, trade between all 60 available cities, build up your own business or become a pirate! And whatever you choose sooner or later you will participate in beautiful sea battles.
Port Royale places the player within real historic locations. You are given the option to choose between 4 different times in history – 1570, 1600, 1630 or 1660. Each of these timelines has direct influence over the game play. You will witness wars, disasters and much more in this rich and dangerous world. So be prepared for everything and ready your cutlass and pistol – the adventure awaits!

The known crash is still there
This is a very good game...except for the crashing. It's a known issue that the developers were aware of but wouldn't fix, something to do with memory allocation, but I can't find the page that described it. I had fun with it in the old days and wuold love to have another playthrough, finding my sister, but it now crashes far too often. I've given it two stars not one as it is a good game. However, I can't recommend buying it due to the crashing.

Port Royale 1
Yaaarrggh! An old school strategy game. Been playing since it's inception from 2003 and the old school Ascaron and Sacred Gold/ Patrician days. It still holds up against Master of Orion 2. Somewhat hah! It's good. If you have the maturity and aptitude/hardware for older games like Merchant Colony 1991 it will serve you well. Just have an old Wonders XP system to run it properly at 1280x1024 slash 4:3 ratio monitor. Decent stuff. And better than that Port Royale 2 crap.

How to avoid crashing?
It crashes no matter what I tried to do. It crashes at the end of the loading up in to the new game.
