PLANET ALPHA

Yet another 2D adventure platformer that throws it's hat in the ring with the likes of Out of this World, Limbo, Inside and etc etc. But it sure does stand on it's own. The setting and game-play driven narrative really sets the stage for an epic adventure. You play as what seems to be an off world explorer who has landed on a strange planet. This planet sure is full of life, wonder and originality, making it easy to soak in the atmosphere. But the sight seeing is quickly cut short when an army of alien robots land and start tearing up the planet! The over premise creates a fantastic back drop for the over all game-play and art design. At first it might seem like a fairly straight forward puzzle platformer. But then quickly turns into a high octane adventure and fight for survival as you move from one intense level to the next. And each area of the game will greet you with a ton of vibrant level design, creatures and enemies that will constantly keep you on your toes. This game sure doesn't re-invent the wheel when it comes to the 2D adventure genre. But it does do it very well and stands right out amongst some of greats. If you love this type of game, it really is a must play.

Planet Alpha has amazing graphics .... and that's all the positive it has. It is a below average puzzle-platformer with unpolished gameplay (frustrating, with almot no guidance), a non-existent story (a shame given that the graphic suggest an epic background, but nothing) which goes into a loop. Sorry, there is another positive, it only last five hours, so given that I bought the game at 75% sale, I only lost a bit of time and money. At full price, the developpers of this failure are just stealing from the buyer. Really, don't buy it, even at 75% sales.

The art of the game is really good, and i enjoyed runing through each panel. You will have to solve riddles in order to progress. Almost all of them are time based, therefor if you ain't got the timing you will die. And in this game, you die a lot. But the game repeat itself and at some point, the background story telling and various riddle isn't enough to stimulate you. It could have been one or two hours short and it took me almost 6 hours to beat. If you like strange universe, no talking and time limited puzzles, go for it.

You go from left to right through different platforms and levels. There's not much more to the story. You encounter some enemies, some puzzles and a lot of skill testers. The strong side of this game is its visuals. There is no graphic, only art. I could just stare at some levels for hours. In fact, I made a few into wallpapers. They portait an alien world- and it really shows. the backgrounds are spectacular, and varied. from sky, mountains, planes and caves, to the futuristic interioirs and robot factories. The game is not long, took me few hours. the only downside is a bit unclear save system- you can't just save and quit, you need to get to the checkpoint, which are at the begining of the new "chapter", meaning localisation change

Couldn't get this to run more than a few minutes at a time before it crashes and dumps out. My computer is spec'd far above what the minimum is required. Not sure what's up but had to ask for a refund on this.
