Unpolished; Not like Terraria in any way
First: this has *absolutely nothing* to do with Terraria. I have no idea where all the misinformation is coming from. The only wayy anyone could rightly mention the two in a same sentence would have to be in relation to something as vague as "a sandbox element". If anything, it's closer to a Pikmin sandbox. With that in mind - this game is fun to discover, but it is meant for casual play and you will quickly reach the depths of what gameplay it offers: managing and customising pirates. You get to recruit them, choose how to develop their 5 stats (not truly a significant choice), assign them one item and a weapon, and teach them skills from books, all available from shops from the start. Beyond that, wherever you sail, you will get a fight which consists in clicking once towards the enemy, then watching things happen. At this time the game is still full of bugs which usually aren't gamebreaking but, along with some partly- or poorly implemented features and interface issues, does little to improve the overall experience. Although the studio is now working on another game, the developers have announced plans for a "remake" to be delivered as an update, Pixel Piracy Enhanced. I would give it a pass until then, but by any means do not go into this game due to its being associated with Terraria or other sandbox games.

Poor start, but strong finish.
I avoided this title for a long time because of all the bad rep its garnered since its release. I decided to pick it up on a whim when I had seen it on sale, since it looked nice enough and there wasn't that much risk in it. I played it for a little while, not expecting much, and as it turns out it was fun. So much so that when I finally decided to stop, I looked up and it was serveral hours later. The reviews on this game are all out of date now, the devs have continued to support this title. During my experience with it so far, I've yet to see any bugs or experience any crashes. The game plays well. I have noticed a lot of people compare this title to Terraria, which is odd to me because outside of pixel graphics and a developer it doesn't share anything else with said game. This is a sandbox/simulation style of game. You play a pirate, you build a ship and manage a crew. You cruise your ship around and fight other ships, dig for gold on islands and level up your captain, crew and weapons. It's a lot of fun, and it gets pretty deep after you've played it for a little bit. The game is mostly controlled by mouse, with a few things such as camera being tied to the keyboard. It's quite comfortable over all and very reminiscent of FTL. When I play I'm usually enjoying a cup of coffee, which is the best way to enjoy this game in my honest opinion. Overall, Pixel Piracy Is very charming. The graphics are beautiful and the little pirate characters are cute. Almost everything is customizable, from the build of your ship right down to the appearance of your captain. You can even rename your little crewmembers as you see fit. I gave it a chance, and I'm glad I did because I've really enjoyed t so far and I think a lot of others would too, if they knew just a little more about it. Either way, if you like slower paced, strategic gameplay then I'd pick this up.

Not a review, a warning
Devs have left GOG in the wind on this one. A couple of patches have been released on Steam which are yet to show here despite the time given. Devs do not respond to questions on this matter. Simply put, this is a 'DO NOT BUY' title, as you won't receive an updated product.

Fun game with potential but broken
It has been a fun game with some issues. That's the reason why I'm so sad that it is broken, at least for me. After a long time, I tried to play again on Linux this time. Playing on Linux mostly is accompanied by smaller or larger issues. But in this case save games are broken. Ship and island are disassembled, Crew and NPCs are drowning.
