so fun, who knew that a red oval with legs could go on a masive adventure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I generally agree with the previous reviews but wanted to mention that for me the controls being a bit off made it quite a bit less fun than it could have been. I don't think it is something that set me back during the more "difficult" parts (almost nothing is really all that difficult if you have played platformers before), however it added a bit of frustration everywhere and that made it not all that fun for me.
There were some other frustrations, like a few coins in the mine level that are quite awkard and difficult to collect and don't feel like a challenge but just a highly questionable design decision.
The slower movement wouldn't be a horrible choice for a linear platformer but is not great for a more open world (I didn't notice until fairly late in the game that there is a roll button that speeds movement some). There also isn't all that much to do anywhere so it seems like the game would be better off linear and shorter. I had a similar feeling with Wuppo; Pikuniku being shorter it didn't build up to quite the same level of frustration I had with Wuppo. Both games have some good ideas but for me were not that fun as presented.
I don't completely regret buying this game at a low sale price since it has some interesting ideas and I like the art style. With a bit of adjustment it could be quite fun, but I can't recommend it as is.
I suspect many people considering this game might enjoy Calico (it also has many issues but I was able to work around most of them and wrote a spoiler-free workaround guide in the forum). Other more polished games to look at: A Short Hike, Little Bug, Beatbuddy, RiME, Yoku's Island Express, The Adventures of Shuggy, My Brother Rabbit, Card City Nights, Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure, Creaks, NyxQuest, Costume Quest, Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed, Stardew Valley, Tokyo Xanadu, Trails in the Sky, Psychonauts, CrossCode, Guacamelee, Hollow Knight, 140, Cyber Hook, Defender's Quest, Botanicula, Samorost 3, Machinarium.
