Description
Pier Solar was originally designed and developed for the SEGA Mega Drive and SEGA Genesis. Yes, you read that right!! It was actually the only newly developed game for SEGA's 16-bit system in the new millennium. It's not a port, fan translation, or a copy of any other game. Pier Solar is a 100% brand new, entirely original,16-bit RPG.

Being a turn-based RPG with state-of-the-art aesthetics, Pier Solar is a story-based RPG about the journey of three young heroes from the town of Reja. In this prospered and peaceful town there live three best friends: Hoston, Alina and Edessot. Young and curious, they want to go on a herb-seeking quest to help cure Hoston's father's mysterious illness. Little do they know ... it will be the beginning of their lifetime journey where they will learn the true meaning of friendship and the thrill of adventure.

This journey will demand their courage and wisdom to solve a long-lost mystery while they face the forces of destruction dispatched by an evil man who is trying to change the world for his own good. Through this escapade, they will be reborn as great heroes to protect the universe from a mistaken purpose...
  • A massive world to explore! Pier Solar has 50+ hours of gameplay, over 300 locations, nearly 500 unique treasure chests, and over 800 NPCs!
  • Epic Battle Tactics! Pier Solar features an innovative battle system that puts you in control of up to five characters and includes in-depth strategic moves such as counter-attacks and a special strategy called Gather, which stores energy to unleash even more powerful moves and spells!
  • Director's cut! Pier Solar expands what was the biggest 16-bit RPG Ever! We released Pier Solar on a custom 64MEG cartridge (the average SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis game size is 12MEG), making it the biggest 16-bit RPG ever! This allowed us to push the 16-bit medium to a precedent setting level, with state-of-the-art aesthetics and things like full-screen cut scenes, background scaling and 3D modes. But Pier Solar HD is more than just a port, the game is getting a Director's cut, and includes an expanded story with new locations and challenges, that couldn't fit on its original Sega Genesis/Mega Drive release.

Flat Characters in a 2d JRPG

This game wasn't for me, even though I love good old JRPG's. Unfortunately this game wasn't what I was looking for in such a game. Here's what I found to be wrong with it. First of all, the controls are really bad. It's not that it's unresponsive. It's the opposite and that makes it hard to navigate the menu and moving around. This is something that I could get used to if nothing else was wrong with it. The music as a tedium to listen to and it seems it's a five second loop running ad infinitum. This makes the music really annoying after a very short time. Now the characters are not my cup of tea. They seem flat and very two dimensional and devoid of any character what so ever. The main character is a botanist and has his special attacks named after a fruits and plants. I can't say anything about the story because I only got as far as the unskippable credits before I quit. The only thing I thought was okay was the battle system which was decent enough to give this game two stars. If it wasn't for that I would have given it 0 stars. I don't want to say it was a bad game, but it definitely have some shortcomings. If you can live it, it will probably be a decent game. As is I couldn't be bothered with it.

oldschool bliss

From what litte i played (the genesis version) this is a good game. Oldschool 16-bit delight. Combat is a little slower then i like , but the look and feel of the game is great. Since i didn't manige to finish the game due to thenical difficulties i can't comment on the story; but from what i expirienced in the part i did play; i say it's worth a buy

Cannot disable loud annoying dialog beep

This looks like a great game, harkening back to the SNES RPG days. Unfortunately, there is a loud annoying beep that plays EVERY SINGLE TIME you advance the dialog windows, and it cannot be disabled. INCREDIBLY ANNOYING! It is driving me crazy after only a few minutes of playing the game. I'd get my money back if I could, but since the game is technically working exactly as it is supposed to, I doubt I can return it for unplayable design decisions :( I'd have probably given this game 4 or 5 stars, but since the loud, annoying, incessant beeping is making the game unplayable for me, 1 star it is.

Fun, but ugly

Note: Although I don't own this game on GOG, I do own the original Genesis/Sega CD version. Let me start by saying that the game itself is excellent. It's a bit slow to start and the writing isn't terribly original, but overall it's a very good RPG. Had they done a straight port, I'd definitely be giving this a 5/5. Problem is, they decided to go back and change the graphics. The beautiful Genesis backgrounds were replaced with a bunch of high-res redraws, which look terrible because the NPCs and most props still use their Genesis sprites (which were drawn in a very different artstyle). They also added in those horrible character portraits... I don't even know where to start on those. Normally I wouldn't take off stars just for bad graphics, but the Genesis version of Pier Solar was quite beautiful so it's a real shame to see this.
