Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh

I find it hard to classify A Puzzle of Flesh as a video game. 'Interactive movie' would possibly be a more suitable description, but the points where you actually interact aren't even slightly enjoyable. Instead, we have to suffer a series of poor FMVs, badly sewn together with dire sequences where you have to navigate emails and computer directories. The story is mildly entertaining, but grows tired very, very quickly. It tries so desperately to be "adult", with an awkwardly long sex scene, S+M clubs and violent death scenes. The game would have benefited a lot if it has the excellent hint feature from the first game, as you often find yourself aimlessly navigating back and forward between areas with no real idea what to do. Treat this game as an FMV curiosity and expect nothing from the gameplay and you might get some enjoyment out Phantasmagoria 2.

Not a bad game, its rather entertaining but most definitely need to play with a walkthrough handy due to linear gameplay that will not advance until you trigger some actionable hotspot. Overall I enjoyed this at times bizarre FMV game with nostalgic nod to the retro hairstyles and clunky PCs and actual landline phones. Too fun! oh and big shoulder pads and hair! Pros: Nice FMV sequences with decent acting. Intriguing plot which draws you into his deepening madness. Fun romp into the 80s style. or was it 90s.. who cares it still was fun. Goofy at times, mostly bizarre, gratuitous sex scenes and partial nudity, woot! I mean this plain dude was getting alot of serious action. Cons: hard to navigate with no maps to help. Hard to find hotspots, sometimes the game crashed as you clicked a spot. Plot really made no sense, especially the alien world bit with a most annoying puzzle. Had to play with a walkthru open so I could just progress without too much random clicking as game wouldnt progress until you activated some clip scene. at times the gratuitous sex scenes got on my nerves as being totally there for perv reasons and had nothing to do with plot. Ending to me was underwhelming and not satisfying. still.. .very enjoyable . loved the David Bowie-ish soundtrack

A lot of people complain that this is more of a movie than a game; I agree but I don't think that's a bad thing. There's a lot of random backtracking that doesn't make a lot of sense (I highly recommend a walkthrough if you find yourself stuck) and the puzzles are either trivial or bizarre. Most people seem to think that this game is awful; I honestly enjoyed it. Plot isn't bad, acting is surprisingly good, some of the characters actually have some depth. Your mileage may vary. ** WARNING ** Some puzzles crashed the game for me, if you hit that follow the youtube videos step-by-step and you'll be ok.
