Description
PHANTASIE I:

When sorcery ruled, and trolls and minotaurs still walked this Earth, a party of six intrepid adventurers set out to find the Nine Rings and use them to destroy the Dark Lord. This is your quest. This is your... Phantasie.

A multiple-character role-playing game, PHANTASIE transports you to the medieval isle of Gelnor for the adventure of your dreams. You command a group of one to six characters with such roles as monk, priest, wizard, ranger, thief, or fighter. Your companions need not be human; they may be gnomes, elves, orcs, or lizardmen — just to name a few exotic races.
With this motley crew, you search the lands for the Nine Rings to help you wipe out the scourge of Gelnor — the Dark Lord and his evil minions. You'll map out new terrain, explore maze-like dungeons, solve puzzles, learn spells, gain experience, and battle countless monsters. In every town you visit, you can recruit new members to replace lost or unneeded comrades.

Beautiful 90s color graphics and a spell-binding storyline suspend reality and launch you into our magical world. No computer-carrying adventurer will want to miss out on the glorious excitement and enchanting experience that is PHANTASIE.

PHANTASIE II:

For no reason other than to embellish his title, the Dark Lord Nickademus fashioned an evil orb. With it, he cast a curse on a beautiful island and enslaved its people. Now, six travelers brave his wrath to find and destroy his nefarious handiwork in… Phantasie II.

A NEW ADVENTURE BEGINS...

Your quest to remove the evil warlock's curse will be no easy task since there are precious few clues. All you know is that locating the orb requires a danger-filled search of a vast wilderness and of dungeons, a trip to the Astral Plane and the Netherworld — wherever they are.

You command a band of one to six adventurers, each endowed with the skills of a monk, priest. wizard, ranger, thief, or fighter. You can recruit new members to replace unneeded or fallen comrades. During this quest, you'll help your heroes gather treasure, solve puzzles, learn spells, and battle the Dark Lord's countless hordes. With all these magical distractions and obstructions, don't forget that finding the orb will do you no good. You'll still have to find a way to destroy it!

PHANTASIE III:The Wrath of Nikademus

The Final Confrontation Against The Dark Lord!

Phantasie III: The Wrath of Nikademus is a fantasy adventure game far greater in scope, complexity, and challenge in the world of Phantasie.
This time, the Dark Lord Nikademus has set his evil sights on conquering — not only an island — but the entire world! He must be stopped, and you've been chosen to undertake this difficult and dangerous quest. Assemble and guide a band of six brave souls (human and otherwise) to search for and destroy Nikademus. Your group will traverse an entire continent, battling the Dark Lord's ugly hordes and exploring dungeons for clues that will ultimately lead you to Nikademus — and to the Final Confrontation.

Travel to the astral Planes of Light and Darkness where you will meet some of the most powerful beings that inhabit the Phantasie Universe — including the legendary Lord Wood. From these encounters, you hope to gain the knowledge and power with which to destroy the Dark Lord.

This pivotal game boasts a number of new and improved features. Bows and arrows and ever more potent spells have been added to the long list of weapons. During combat, you can move each character to the front, middle, or back of the party. You can also aim your spells at different ranks of the enemy. You determine which skills an individual character should improve on as he gains experience. Wounds are specified by body location and extent of injury.

You'll enjoy the enhanced graphics display of characters and monsters, and the increased speed of play as you travel across the wilderness and dungeons.

The Wrath of Nikademus promises a spell-binding storyline with enough twists and turns to satisfy your wildest fantasies!

Note that Phantasie II was never released for PC, and we had to use the Apple II emulator to make this game playable on Windows. Thus, when asked to “INSERT DUNGEON DISK AND PRESS A KEY” in Phantasie II, please ensure to press F5 to continue playing.

You can access the parts II and III through Additional Executables section in GOG GALAXY. You will also find them in the game folder.

Well just the PC CGA Version

This would be worth a graphic upgrade, all other versions look a lot better than this, unfortunately it never got a VGA version. Well it's about game play and not graphic or sound. It still is a kick in the butt, when you remember the C64 graphic and get this ;-)

One of the best forgotten old RPGs

I'm a bit biased, as one of my earliest gaming memories is the Phantasie series, notably Phantasie III, where your characters can get beheaded, backs and necks broken like the Iron Sheik was there, and so on. Even so, for the era, Phantasie is an unusually solid series. Compared to it's contemporaries, Bard's Tale and Wizardry, which I do love, Phantasie is stuffed with world building and detail other more famous RPGs lacked. A number of scrolls in each game give clues and expand the world you're exploring to more than just featureless dungeons, and the dungeons themselves are logically laid out, rooms and caverns giving you descriptive details about them, choices to be made, and knowledge to be gained. Few games of this era even had information to give, much less given as a reward for rescuing an NPC. Only Ultima was more detailed, and that only by the (excellent) fourth entry. Combat is a standard Wizardry-style menu driven affair, though well done. Classes and characters are pretty much standard AD&D based, Fighter, Wizard, Priest, Thief, Ranger, and Monk, though the Monk isn't the unarmed combatant of later Bard's Tale and wizardry design. The big difference is the races, while you have the usual Elf, Human, and Dwarf, and so on, you can also create a random race character, with Minotaurs, Sprites, Pixies, Orcs, and other monsters as options. One weakness of this collection is the choice of game versions. Phantasie I and III are the horrid CGA DOS versions; no CGA composite mode even, just 4 color nauseating CGA. Phantasie II is run through an Apple II emulator. This means that you can't transfer a party through the entire series, but more importantly, there are better versions. The Atari ST for example had all three games available, with much much better graphics, and even mouse support. The Amiga at least had 1 and 3. It is also missing documentation, though readily available elsewhere, it shouldn't have been left out. Still worth the price, IMO.

Brings back memories

I think this was one of my first games on the 64. Sure would have been nice if you'd ported that version. 8 colors is a lot better than ibm's 4. Copy protection is still active so you have to go out and find the original manual. Come on GOG do your research.

Golden oldie

I remember playing Phantasie and Phantasie3 on an Amiga500 when I was a kid. Playing again on my pc it is an enjoyable romp through nostalgia, albeit with a minor mixed blessing. Having played the games on my amiga500 in the past, the graphics in these versions feel.... underwhelming... to put it nicely. It's nice to romp through the old games again, although a part of me longs for a modern remake with decent graphics and a better interface.
