Description
Your universe is as vast as you deem it to be. Explore and colonize hundreds of inhabitable worlds in one of the largest game universes ever created. No two games will ever be the same!
Once colonies are established, they can either be left alone or carefully managed. To excel in this gigantic real-time environment you will have to juggle economics, research and develop hundreds of technologies, build your planet's assets, and establish solid domestic and foreign relations. Your trusted advisors will assist you, but the fate of your people lies with you, and you alone.
With the ability to create your own species, or to use one of the game's pre-designed aliens, contact will always be eventful. Intentions will be unknown…treaties made and broken…trust won and lost.
Occasionally fellow emperors just will not listen to reason. Research, design, and deploy massive armadas. Take control of a revolutionary in-game combat engine and wage battle across your universe. Soon, there will be no question as to whose universe it is!

Incredible Soundtrack
Buy it for the soundtrack alone. So so game - repetitive at best and aged beyond redemption but the ambient soundtrack for this game is reason alone to buy it. I have the original game disk from the late 90s and I toss it in a CD player from time to time because the soundtrack is great to work to.

Shoulda been the best
The game was excellent in every point, save one: combat. (The music wasn't especially memorable, but it fit the game.) AI control was mediocre, which was frustrating because the controls for controlling different ships was garbage. Since combat was important and difficult *because* of the controls, I found this game far more frustrating than fun. This was such a great game everywhere else, though, which made it worse. It was close to the best game of the 4X genre and failed because of crummy controls. If someone hacked the stupid thing and inserted meaningful formation controls and 'sweep mines' and 'approach to range and attack' behavior options, the game could be one of the best.

Remembering epic space empire builders
Graphics are VGA - does not mean Very Grand Array or anything approaching fancy!!! But it works and is enjoyable, it lets you play away solo and there's almost endless variations to try. The biggest plus is - a game doesn't have to take forever. I've tried Stellarium - which a lot more modern and slick, unfortunately has the downside of taking forever to complete. Biggest downside of Pax - omg, I get too addicted to trying variations and next thing I know ... it's tomorrow morning and time to head to work. Yikes. Someone sling me a coffee or three. Biggest upside - it is NOT pay to win :) In all seriousness ... if you just need some mindless time away from it all to grind. This is a good go to. I'm tempted to try higher difficulty settings, just to see what it does to handicap me further. But, once you've got the recipe for success, you've got the recipe for success (which is where a human opponent wouldn't have that issue - but that's the state of play even with advanced games like Stellarium).
