I also come back to this game from time to time. It falls into a category of gaming I feel I can play on a chill morning with coffee. Doesn't require twitch reaction. You can sit and plan your moves and its in-depth enough to get your attention.
Now right of the bat, this game is extremely hard in the early and mid game, and doesn't exactly turn easy in the late game. If you're not into that, which is understandable, this game isn't for you.
But if you enjoy yourself a bit of hardcore (and realistic) strategy/management games, then you'll find that in Patrician 3.
And once you get past being very close to bankruptcy a couple of times, you'll actually start making a lot of money, which you'll need for all the political intrigue.
Before beginning this game, I had no experience with Patrician games, old or new. I decided to have a try, and was very pleased with the game. There are a few different adventures to be had, and the mechanics are rewarding and dynamic. The game is ostensibly a trading game, moving goods between northern medieval European towns. But there are many deeper ways to play, including managing the security of a fleet, sending out pirates on your behalf, or building up businesses in different towns (and later automating much of this process). The different scenarios are broad and worth the time they need to figure out winning strategies, and the writing and scenarios are very engaging. In the end, the game keeps you on your toes, and is still both challenging and fresh nearly two decades after its original release.
Patrician 3 is a game I've spent more than 800+ hrs into since I first discovered It back in 2004 among the children's games in my Library. What I Love about Patrician 3 is:
1.The Game has a Great tradesystem
2. The Ships' implementation into the game does what other no other tycoon game does better. simulates Time To Trade Or to put in a diffrent way: simulates the time from Me, making a desicion till when that action is carried out. That is a Perfect relationship, that no similar Tycoonish game Has Ever come to replicating.
This is A Must-Play for anyone new to Business Simulations.
10/10 Top Tier Video Game while LAN is the only stable multiplayer in the Game, This Game On It's Own will carry ItSelf in to infinity.
I love playing tycoon games but Patrician 3 is, by far, the best strategic game I have ever played. It will get you thinking of what strategy you can use to finish one campaign. One campaign will let you play for hours to finish. Try it. You can play this on Mac using Winery.
