Description

The Inevitable Excess DLC will take players on a new adventure set just before their triumphant victory over the Worldwound. The new story will require all the hero's high-level abilities and mythic powers to battle nigh on invincible opponents.

Players will answer the call of Valmallos, a powerful being from another plane of existence who is determined to stop an impending threat to the universe.

  • Play a new story that complements the main campaign storyline and takes+C27 about 7–8 hours. Import your character from the main campaign with all their companions, or create a new one to find out what exactly has troubled the keeper of magic.
  • At the beginning of the adventure, your character will have a high level — both standard and mythic. Fight new mythic opponents who threaten the peace of the planes. Use your entire arsenal of mythic abilities!
  • Visit Axis — the birthplace and home of the inevitables, the machine aeons, exploring every corner of this plane and finding your way through a dungeon full of dangers.
  • Export your achievements to the main campaign! After you complete this DLC, new powers will become available to your character in the main campaign right before the official start of the Fifth Crusade.

New opponents await you, ready to test your righteous wrath. But remember, not everything may be as it seems at first glance. Sometimes friends can betray you, and old enemies lend a helping hand.

Save your $$!

The Good: + new chars start at Level 20, it can be used as a build preview The Bad: - tedious puzzles - story and setting are unmemorable - 10 hours - no char progression (already maxed out at the start) - story lacks dilemmas and consequences (besides the ending) - enemy variety lacking Bottom line: Inevitable Excess is just that... EXCESS. It's a bad and tedious DLC. I found the puzzles in the OG annoying, they're even worse here. A story is almost non-existent, you get puzzles & combat for 10 hours and zero character progression since you already start at level 20. If you have the season pass - you get to feel ripped off - and can use it as a build preview. If you do not have the season pass - well done! - save your money! If you like killing monsters and solving puzzles and don't care about a compelling story with dilemmas, consequences and well fleshed out characters but like starting maxed out this might be okayish for a couple of hours, but I'd still waith for a discount.

Crappy DLC

I gave it an extra star as it is nice to hear more voice lines from the main cast. Zero Stars for the bloated enemy stats, horrible puzzles, terrible level design that you can get lost in for hours at a time as you have no idea where to go or how to get there. What makes your games good is the character interactions, story and DND combat. Make all these puzzles totally optional and fix your level designs so they are easier to navigate also giving enemies 70-100AC, 40 SR and 70 BAB is not challenging it just makes us power-game to the max which feels terrible.

Doesn't bring anything worthwhile

When you ask players who completed Pathfinder: WotR what they loved about the game, they will most likely tell you "the first 2 or 3 chapters when I was exploring the world and game mechanics". If you then ask them what they hated about the game, they will tell you: "the atrocious final chapter of the game". Why? Because of the overblown, badly designed, and tedious slogfests that owlcat calls combat encounters. Because of the absolutely horrible and tedious "puzzles" that take hours even *with* a walkthrough. Only a handful people are willing to suffer through that. So, what would be the best possible DLC you could provide to address those issues? Yep, that's right, even more slog fest with even more tedious combat and "puzzles", only this time you also do not get anything form it (you begin and end at the max level). Sounds fun, right? It's no wonder this is the worst pathfinder DLC ever made, and it shows in all reviews, both here and on Steam. Owlcat shot themselves in the foot for listening to the tiny minority of loud "fans" who masturbate over min-maxed builds. For the rest 99.9% of the playerbase, this DLC brings absolutely nothing worthwhile or even remotely fun.

Lots of fluff, little actual content

Let me start off by saying I *love* the Pathfinder games - despite the bugs, despite how unforgiving and unnecessarily complicated they can be, despite a certain companion's sidequest in WotR (iykyk) and that not all choices are as meaningful as they seem to be. (It's still no Mass Effect 3 by any means, a lot of choices really do matter.) But IE seems to just... do away with most of that, it's a mishmash of every mythic path in the game, so get ready for spoilers if you haven't played through them all (and seeing you can easily sink 100hrs into a playthrough, that seems kinda unlikely) - and I'm talking *major* spoilers for those too, that's probably what upset me the most about the DLC. Other than that, it feels like it's bland puzzles with questionable logic (as in the logic of the actual puzzles, not the storytelling - the story is supposedly built on logic and the laws of the universe breaking down), some pretty hefty stat and gear padding without any new mechanics, classes or builds. There's no world map at all, very little actual tie-in to the main game and its story (other than the mythic paths and the game ending - done in a very ham-handed way), and overall it feels... uninspired. I'll gladly take any extra content for the game, but this is a DLC I certainly wont replay other than to get the (fairly minor) effects in the main game.

I don't understand the bad reviews...

Only thing I agree with, is that at times it can be a bit confusing and you get lost easily on some maps (happened to me twice, running in circles for ~10 mins). Other than that, it's an alright story dlc. Not at all what I expected, not that that's a bad thing... It's pretty short ~5-8 hours and some of the side quests aren't all that interesting, aside from the humorous conversations. The price/value ratio isn't very good compared to the main game, for 13€ I expected a bit more from a Pathfinder game. I didn't really have any trouble with battles on core, if anything it was pretty easy (I was playing on my angel oracle, which might be the reason.) If you liked the main game and want to continue playing with your max level char for a bit longer, then go for it. If you don't, you won't really miss out on a whole lot.
