Pathfinder: Kingmaker - Enhanced Plus Edition

After seen so many reviews saying that the game was bugged, I was going to wait until a at least a couple of major patches were released to buy it (I'm one of those guy who rage quit forerver when something game breaking apears). But after seeing the dedication and respect for the players on the devs part, releasing patches almos every day (sometimes twice in a day), I deicided to give it a try. And i'm glad I did. The game is fantastic, if you are a Baldurs Gate fan like I am (it used to be my favorite game until The Witcher came along), you gonna love it. Its the best BG sucessor so far, better than PoE, Divinity Original Sin and others. With the closest gameplay (pros&cons included), but most important, the best writing. I've never been a fan of Chris Avellone, always thougth he was overrated, but he and the rest of the crew manage to create an immersive, non cliche (including the non Bioware romances), story rich game (and that's whats RPGs are about), with great companions (except maybe for Harrim). There is also other good aspects of the game like the Sound Track, great voice acting, the challenging but rewarding combat and the really fun Kingdom System.

While I can see a number of folk have got a running version of the game and are very happy with it for the most part I can't count myself as one of them. It's 2018 and installing an application should not be this problematic. It should also run for long enough to actually get to the game. At least it was consistent, having failed to run on several machines that exceeded the minimum spec In fairness, what little I did get to see was pretty good looking. Hopefully I will have better luck with Windows 10

After over 70 hours in (including a few restarts), I have to say I enjoy this game quite a lot. Yes, it had a ton of bugs on release (and still has its problems as I'm writing this) and the difficulty of encounters varies quite a bit, but overall, its more fun than f.e. PoE. From the recently (a few years back) released CRPGs, this one has the most fluent combat system, in my honest opinion. Or rather, it does feel closest to the good old Baldur's Gate, which is something the other recent games lacked and their combat system felt stiff. The game and UI look nice. The music sounds a bit generic - could be a little bit more epic or memorable.

almost 35h in. the game is simply fantastic, feels like Baldurs Gate that had been greatly expanded upon. as a person, who has finished a couple of old school d&d based crpgs, but is unfamiliar with tabletop at all, i found myself quickly getting into this pathfinder system, so thats a big plus. game offers rich and complexed mechanics, lots of variety when it comes to classes, races, both of PC and NPCs, it simply respects the player, which is great. it is clearly visible that the game is inspired by these older infinity engine titles, but it manages to modernize a lot of frustrating elements they had. the best new-ish game, counting from like 2010 onwards, I have played so far. its not quality tier of Planecape Torment or Mask of the Betrayer, when it comes to writing, but for what it is, it may be a contender for a title of a crpg of the current decade. shame the game got the reputation of being extremely buggy and it has been affecting the score ever since. well... that's why I bought it half a year after the release

Best ruleset-implementation these days. If you like classic d&d rgpgs you need to try this out. Its a abolute gem especially with all the great mods out there. I disagree with the comments about its bad balance. These games are different from casual rpgs out there. You defenitly need to learn the rules before your party shines and you need to think about your ingame choices before you set up action. This is a game with a steep learning curve if you are not familiar with the ruleset and may its not the kind of game you want to play if you dont want to invest in this learning phase.
