Based on our players' feedback and suggestions, this version of the game improves and builds upon the original. This edition includes:

  • new abilities and ways to build your character, including a brand-new class,

  • enhanced kingdom management system, both in terms of balance as well as usability and player comfort,
  • increased variety of random encounters on the global map,

With the help of over 18,000 Kickstarter backers, Narrative Designer Chris Avellone and composer Inon Zur, Owlcat Games is proud to bring you the first isometric computer RPG set in the beloved Pathfinder tabletop universe. Enjoy a classic RPG experience inspired by games like Baldur's Gate, Fallout 1 and 2 and Arcanum. Explore and conquer the Stolen Lands and make them your kingdom!

Explore the Stolen Lands, a region that has been contested territory for centuries. Hundreds of kingdoms have risen and fallen in these lands, and now it is time for you to make your mark—by building your own kingdom! To do so, you’ll need to survive the harsh wilderness and the threat of rival nations… as well as threats within your own court.

Customize your character with a wide range of classes and powers including specialized archetypes, powerful arcane and divine spells, choosing from a multitude of class abilities, skills, and feats. Pathfinder allows players to create heroes (or villains) that fit both their individual gameplay styles and their personalities.

Meet a diverse cast of companions and NPCs, including iconic characters from the Pathfinder setting itself. You’ll need to decide who to trust and who to watch carefully, as each companion has an agenda, alignment, and goals that may differ from yours. Your journey will become their journey, and you’ll help shape their lives both in the moment and well into the future.

Conquer new regions as claim them as your own, carving your kingdom from the wilderness. While classic dungeon crawling and exploration lie at the heart of this adventure, diplomacy, politics, and kingdom development are also part of the challenge. Choose your allies well, and keep them close while exploring ancient tombs and ruins — and while dealing with politics in your own court.

Your kingdom is a reflection of your character and your choices throughout the game. It is a living thing shaped by your alignment, your allies, and your ability to lead your people. Not only can your kingdom expand, opening up new territories and allowing you to build new towns and communities, but your capital city will physically change based on your decisions, your policies, and even whom you choose to ally with. As your kingdom grows, a number of factions and neighboring countries will come to you to seek favor—and to test your strength.

Explore - Conquer - Rule!

insane loading times ruins it

To be honest I reinstalled the game multiple times after rage quitting it because it has such potential. I can overlook balancing problems or encounters that are too hard. That’s what mods and cheatengine are for. I can still very much appreciate the love and dedication gone into this game. For example the visual effect when 4 mages cast chain lightning on your foes. Superb! It makes me feel like the emperor roasting Luke Skywalker. I also love the equipment that is physically shown on your characters. Such level of detail and dedication. Most of the main quest missions are really good and I loved playing them. Buuuuuuuuut it brakes my hard heart what you did with the engine. The loading time is just insane. I own decent hardware and I’m very tolerant when it comes to indie games. Heck I even played on multiple machines trying to get around the short comings of this game. Most of the time is wasted looking at the loading screen. Add the occasional PC freezing crash and it’s just frustrating. Please please please open a repo somewhere on Github to get this fixed it ruins this promising game. It’s just sooooo sad that all the love that went into this game is wasted that way. Just opensource this already and let your fans help you fix it. Or reach out to the modders and give them some direction. Another big issue is the lack of direction for quest (both main and side). I found myself multiple times scrolling through forums just how the heck I can proceed with the main quest. Sadly it finally broke down for me when I decided to switch of kingdom management and wanted to advance to the next event. Game just freezes now and all of my saves have that option turned of. Sadly you can’t turn it back on. I might start this again if the loading is reduced to a second or so. Then I’d gladly know how the story ends.

They could have done better

While I really enjoyed some part of the game, I cannot mark 4 stars for this game. You can spend many hours in this game, and you can play even more than twice with different characters and choices. In the entire gameplay, the size of the game universe (jobs, character creation, and other in-game choices), combined with DLCs, felt so big and diverse (my favourite is Varnhold’s Lot, which can experience the main story from the viewpoints of other NPCs). If you enjoy Baldur’s gate or Pillars of Eternity, I think this is a better option than Divinity Original Sin. One of main problems is (as stated in other reviews too) save/load time. They happen too often, and interrupt the gameplay. For example, in the kingdom management even when you open and close the village/town I had to stare at the loading screen every time, and this happens often enough that I forget what I originally wanted to achieve! I think they should somehow optimise whatever they can. Graphic arts and music is okay. Scenario is understandable. The in-game journal, written from a viewpoint of one of NPCs, felt very odd and a bit clumsy. I personally did not like this character but even if I do I think they should have done in a better way even if they try a unique approach. Generally, it seems the production team is indulging themselves: I think they calibrate their QA threshold in a wrong way, as if they can make it pass at least people involved in kickstarters who knows about the contents are satisfied. I thought it was a brave and good attempt to make the pathfinder RPG into CRPG, but I think they should have waited for the release until it converges to a tolerable level.

Fun Game, BUT...

After years of it's release, still is bug ridden. I was recently hit by a game breaking bug that shuts down my computer. There's a fix, but good luck making it work. The fix involves changing the permissions on the shutdown file inside the SYSWOW folder of your Windows machine. It seems simple enough but there is something wrong with my computer that won't let me change it... I could spend my time trying to fix that, but I won't. This happened just days after purchasing the last DLC of the Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous (I know, that's another game), but when searching for solutions to my problem with Kingmaker, I found some people got the same problem on WOTR. I am heartbroken, I'd love to continue playing this game and WOTR, but I'm not going to. Not sure if I'm going top continue supporting the company that make the games too. I love the pathfinder universe, but this is unnacceptable.

Should have loved it but way too flawed

I got the game for free on another platform and for some reason, it kept crashing randomly, sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after 1 or 2 hours. I made it far enough to deafeat the first boss and deal with the first crisis, getting some kingdom management done but the crashes happened too often. I tried it again recently and this time, it looks like I'm not getting any crash. However, I will not go further. I loved and finished Baldur's Gate 1&2, Planescape Torment, Fallout, Arcanum, Pillars of Eternity 1&2, Tyranny, Atom RPG and its sequel, Divinity Original Sin, even Encased and Age of Decadence. So I love isometric RPGs. But this one, despite a somewhat engaging story does not make the cut. It's very tedious in many aspects. It will give you penalties for wearing too much stuff (ok, why not), for being tired, for being poisoned... So much that your characters won't be able to move sometimes. The rest system looks good but you get attacked so often you spend too much time trying to rest. And on countless occasions, you cannot manage your team. Because they are caught in a spiderweb and all you have to do is wait several minutes or sleep so that it disappears. Or because a caster frightened your team and there is no way winning an otherwise easy combat. It may look like I'm whining at what hardcore players would reply by: éyou need to prepare the combats and explorationé. But I've played so many CRPGs with different systems and it's the first time I felt, on normal difficulty, that I had to read the whole Pathfinder wiki to understand how to play. This is a game by tabletop players that have not understood the medium they are dealing with. Or at least didn't want to compromise. Well, too bad because I feel like I may have enjoyed the ride, cause there are good ideas, if it wasn't putting me off every 5 minutes.

Loading Screen: The Game

The game cumbles under its own weight. Particularly intolerable are the extremely frequent, long loading screens, but what truly made me rage quit after tens of hours trying to engage with the game is the game over due to kingdom being destroyed. It served me three 28 days tasks to fix, with only one eligible person to put in charge. There was just no way I was ever going to sort it out, unless rolling way back in my saves. That wasn't an option, because if you keep more that 2 or 3 saves, the loading times get prohibitively long.
