Congratulations. The October labor lottery is complete. Your name was pulled.
For immediate placement, report to the The Ministry of Admission at Grestin Border Checkpoint. An apartment will be provided for you and your family in East Grestin. Expect a Class-8 dwelling. Glory to Arstotzka.
The communist state of Arstotzka has just ended a 6-year war with neighboring Kolechia and reclaimed its rightful half of the border town, Grestin. Your job as immigration inspector is to control the flow of people entering the Arstotzkan side of Grestin from Kolechia. Among the throngs of immigrants and visitors looking for work are hidden smugglers, spies, and terrorists. Using only the documents provided by travelers and the Ministry of Admission's primitive inspect, search, and fingerprint systems you must decide who can enter Arstotzka and who will be turned away or arrested.
Immerse yourself in a fictional world of spies, criminals, terrorists, secret societies, government agents and more.
Unique document-inspection gameplay with escalating challenges.
Decide the fate of countless hopeful immigrants while balancing your income and family needs.
20 Different endings to figure, not as easy as you may think it could be being Indie looking an all. The humour about state controlled conditions is just pure gold. TRY IT
One of the best indie titles I've played in a long time. It's easy to look at it on the surface and just think it's "a document simulator". But if you pay attention, there's actually a lot of story going on, with the decisions you make being apart of it (there's 20 different possible endings - can you find them all?).
And thought provoking? Do you help your hard line government and enforce it's rules, or take a chance with the resistance and risk capture? Do you choose to try and save money, turn off the heat for the night, and risk a family member getting ill? Do you have enough money for yours son's birthday? Would that bribe some guy just offered help ? (YES.)
Fantastic game! Don't miss it.
This is an AMAZING game. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, I thought it'd get boring after a while, turns out, it doesn't. So many things are added that keep it fun and exciting, and some of the smaller things are great too. This game really brings me to think about morals, when do you break the guidelines? What do you risk, letting someone with a weapon through, and being able to feed your family from a bribe, or do you be a good guy by the book and detain him? This is an amazing game, but I can imagine that it is not for everyone.
Papers, Please is a deceptive game in more than one way: it seems dated - especially the graphics -, but being set in the early eighties, the simple graphics really fit! Also, it seems extremely simple... And it is, VERY simple to screw up! I can recommend this game to people who like to test and/or train their perception and attention for detail. The only thing that hardly seems to make sense, is the fact that endless play (the perfect mode to train oneself in) is locked until you've completed the story mode. Fortunately, it's not hard to find the code that unlocks it.
Anyway: I'm glad that I spent a few euros to get this marvelous game.
A perfect blend of intuitive storyline, complex gameplay based on simplistic design and right amount of satire, fun and tragedy.
God! Why there are not more games like this
