I remember playing this on my old PC 10 years ago. I found it extremely enjoyable - everything from the emphasis on leaders, the interesting scenarios and the 3d graphics. So I decided to purchase it again but, unfortunately, the game does not run well on my relatively new PC. I get mouse lag (I don't have a gaming system but the specs are pretty good) and I find the 3d graphics are not sharp on my 23 inch monitor. GOG was nice enough to give me store credit for the game, which I will use to buy PG2 - another great Panzer General game which I owned eons ago.
Technical solution for mouse lag and ultra slow animations
Be sure to disable SAM (Smart Access Memory) in the graphics card driver, then the game will run perfectly!
(Tested with Ryzen 7 5700X and Radeon RX 6700 XT on Windows 11 64bit)
Disabling Resizable BAR on Nvidia graphics cards can probably solve similar problems (if any). But someone else has to test that!
As for the game itself: I think the game is great and a very nice modernization of the old formula! Both Panzer General game formulas (the old generals and this one plus Scorched Earth) have their right to exist!
Here, however, 'only' 4 stars, the 5 stars are reserved for Scorched Earth :-)
@PaulNaylor: thanks for this gem of a game! You'll have to use your connections now to get Scorched Earth released on GOG as well ;-)

Im Grafikkartentreiber unbedingt SAM (Smart Access Memory) deaktivieren, dann läuft das Spiel einwandfrei!
(Getestet mit Ryzen 7 5700X und Radeon RX 6700 XT unter Windows 11 64bit)
Vermutlich kann die Deaktivierung von Resizable BAR bei Nvidia Grafikkarten ähnliche Probleme (falls überhaupt vorhanden) lösen. Das muss aber jemand anderes testen!
Zum Spiel selbst: ich finde das Spiel klasse und eine sehr schöne Modernisierung der alten Formel! Beide Panzer General Spielformeln (die alten Generäle und dieses plus Scorched Earth) haben ihre Daseinsberechtigung!
Hier allerdings trotzdem 'nur' 4 Sterne, die 5 Sterne sind für Scorched Earth reserviert :-)
