In Pandemic Train you are in charge of the crew aboard a train roaming the postapocalyptic wasteland, ravaged by both war and a deadly plague. Your goal is to survive long enough to discover the cure… or die trying. Humanity’s fate is in your hands! Start your journey now!
You are in charge!
Pandemic Train is a survival game with roguelike and strategy elements in which you command the crew and passengers aboard an old train powered by a steam engine. The plot takes place in an alternative timeline of the 20th century when a catastrophic virus epidemic decimates the world's population. A mysterious plague kills infected people within 24 hours, leading to widespread panic, riots, and war. The world is in ruins and you are the only hope for its survival. Explore the wastelands, collect resources, fight bandits, and find a cure for a deadly disease!
Survive!
In Pandemic Train the world has become a very inhospitable place. People will die along the way, and you have to minimize the damage. The resources are scarce, so you have to distribute them very carefully. And worst of all - there are lots of hungry wolves around. And by ‘hungry wolves’ we mean desperate people who will do anything to defeat you and stop your search for the cure. To defeat your opponents, take care of the resources you acquire and produce. They are limited, so use them carefully. Unfortunately, this is not the end of bad news...
Manage the resources
In the harsh reality of Pandemic Train, you need to be self-sufficient - you grow your own food, breed the livestock, gather and purify your own drinking water, and take care of a proper ammunition supply. You have to utilize every bit of scrap or junk at your disposal and turn it into something useful. This often leads to difficult decisions, for example - there’s rarely enough medicine for everyone, so you’ll have to decide who is worth the treatment, and who will suffer or even be left to die.
Fight the plague!
The main goal of your actions is to create a vaccine and save the remnants of humanity from extinction. The longer you manage to keep the train moving, the less likely that the crew will have contact with the virus, and your scientists will get more time to work on the medication. You can customize the train to your needs - decide how many people are on it and how many train cars are going to be attached to the engine. But remember - the bigger the party, the harder it is to keep it in check. You are the only hope for mankind. You are the last hope… for humanity.

The game is rather a simple progression driven rogue RTS. The party is put on the train that travels always forward along fixed branching paths between locations where some event or combat is happening. Nothing special. Maps are simple and repetitive. The combat is a primitive RTS and very repetitive. You can sneak but you cannot really tell if the enemy sees you aside from the music change… . You cannot even say that a cover is a cover. Remember the mechanics from Commando? That was good, this here sucks. Regardless, it is all pointless if the enemy is usually attacking you from the edge or beyond the screen so yeah, dumb all the way. At some point our party gets killed and you start over again. Do the grind again, get some resources, do mini upgrades, die again, upgrades and so on. I think you get my drift here. The game is a repetitive grinder that gets boring rather quickly. There are some aspects of building on the train that get transferred between the runs. I think it supposed to be challenging and entertaining but for me was just overly annoying and truthfully just amplifying the grind, that I sincerely hate. So yeah a very poor game, unfortunately.
I hate to be mean but the voice acting was so bad and imidiatelly grating (including the mic being of noticably bad quaility) that I clicked out of the game before the tutorial. I tried to check the settings but there didn't seem to be an option for opting out of voice lines.
