I haven't finished this game yet, so this is off of initial impressions, but wow. The first two things that you'll immediately notice are the music and the graphics, both of which are beautiful.
In terms of gameplay, it's very organic and addictive. As stated in the title, it's the love child of Kirby and Metroid. If that interests you at all, then give this game a shot. I was not disappointed.
Owlboy stands not only as a platformer, but as art. The graphics and music are wonderful, and it's clear that it took a lot of effort to make.
I found this game from a YouTuber who does a segment called Jimpressions, and he covered Owlboy, mentioning it was originally started all the way back in 2008.
The creativity that went into worldbuilding is striking, and reminds me a bit of Sundered Skies, a tabletop game setting in a system called Savage Worlds, where the action takes place on a series of floating islands connected only by the trade routes of sky-faring galleons. Owlboy's setting is no imitation, however, as it features a plethora of custom-designed races, monsters, and locales.
Gameplay is great, very Zelda-like, has puzzles, and the controls I think are pretty easy to pick up. The twist on the typical platformer genre is that the main hero, Otus, can fly, and can carry a series of gunners, which makes things far more interesting and varied than in a typical platformer.
I really enjoyed play this game. The design great, scenes are beautiful!
The story seems to be simple at first, but is surprising then! Telling no more... =)
I love the OST, nice job on it. You really should buy and play this game, worth it.
The gameplay is simple but efficient, switching between "weapons" is fun and easy, lots of things to do.
Thanks to the devs for this game!
I really enjoyed this game. The mechanic was simple but fun. The dungeons were challenging but just enough to make the game fun. Can really recommend this.
