Great Game
Great game to play cooperatively with someone else. A lot of the mechanics are fined tuned for factory line style synchronization between at least two players were each player plays a self-selected specialized role in an improvised cooking assembly line. An ability to quickly form a plan, adapt to changing circumstances (happens in a lot of maps) and sometimes deviate slightly from the plan for an emergency are required. Not a good game for each players to do their own thing without synchronization. That's a recipe for disaster in this game. The maps are very creative, introducing new mechanics all the time and most are actually completely over the top (as is the final boss), but it's all part of the game's charm. Each level can award you between 1 and 3 stars depending on how well you do and you unlock subsequent levels by accumulating a requisite number of stars (and finish the preceding level with at least one star). So while you don't have to be perfect in every level, you can't just breeze through with only one star in each kitchen. You can afford to have 1 star in a couple of kitchens you don't like, but your batting average needs to be pretty good. 90%+ of the kitchens were a lot of fun for us though. The game is not that long. We completed it in 3-4 playthroughs (less than 4 hours on each playthrough, though your mileage may vary if you don't cooperate well). There are also 2 expansions, though judging from the first expansion we're playing through so far, they don't seem long. There is also a versus mode if that is your thing, but it's best experienced if you are 4 players (it is 2 vs 2 and while you can play that with only 2 players, each team will have 1 unplayed player that just stands there and it looks kind of weird). Overall a great game that is a bit on the short side, but packs a lot of exciting gameplay during the time it lasts. Some games stretch their gameplay thin over a long length. This one compresses it in a shorter bang.
