game can be fixed with a blank txt file

i played this game a rather long time ago, and was always frustrated with the forced auto-save. the save state is constantly trying to screw you; you get into a little bit of trouble and get "caught between a rock and a hard place", then you 'soft-die'. in this game, you do not truly die... instead, upon losing all of your health, somebody hauls you off to a base or town and FORCIBLY AUTOSAVES. this can be detrimental, since you may be hauled to a bandit camp and robbed of all your belongings, and then you just have to suck it up and try to get out of there, and continue with lower health and possessions. this horrible auto-save function can be fixed! find the games installation folder find the folder ending in "data" create a blank .txt file, named "DEBUG" thats it! once you open the game again, there will be more menu options, including a list of previous saves inside of the character selection. in the actual game- you can open the "cheats" menu, and uncheck both "autosave" options, and use that same "cheat" menu, to make a manual save- which will then be available from the main menu. with this one adjustment, the game is made much more fun, as you dont feel constantly harassed and taunted by the 'forward locked' autosave states.

Ordinary adventure, extraordinary game

This game's main mechanics are great: the combat (with buffs and debuffs), the exploring and the backpack are very well implemented. The game's premise is simple: you are not special. You are a normal person who got wrapped up in an adventure. As such, in combat you are also not special. You need to prepare for most battles, either by pre-casting buffs or eating stamina, mana and health foods or preparing the battlefield by setting up traps and sigils. You need to prepare magic combos, for magic is inefficient when used alone, but stronger when combined for better effects. You need to think whether this battle is really worth it, or should a more stealthy approach bring better results. The gameplay loop of exploring until your backpack is full can get cumbersome (pun intended), but adds a layer of immersion and decision making while you see if this armor is really worth selling or if you'd better just let it lay here because of the weight. And the exploration feels great. The music is nice, and the artstyle is pleasing, the map layout feels great too with at least a few important landmarks on view at any given time... and you'll need them, because you'll learn how to find yourself without a marker, using the landscape and a bit of triangulation work. Overall, a great experience. Not for everyone, but definitely scratches the itch for me.

amazing but not for everyone

I have over 200 hours in the base version of the game. Outward doesn't hold your hand and that's one of the best part about it. Very few quest. This game is more about mystery and exploration. Finding items, selling loot, getting better equipment and skills. No quest markers, you have to pay attention to your surroundings otherwise you'll get lost. You have to plan, gather resources (potions, food, drinks) before you go on a expedition. In Outward you're constantly learning something new. Try it if you like hardcore rpgs (also, the music is simply amazing).

Amazing game

I have been playing this game for dozens of hours. I am obsessed with it. It's a game that throws you into a world and let's you figure things out. Big feel of adventuring, risk and reward. Very cozy too. It's a game that is very much made in the mold of Morrowind and Gothic. If you liked those games, you should try Outward. I will be paying close attention to all future games made by Nine Dots Studio.

Old schoolers will like this

I wanna say i didn't play the crap outta this while at a contracted security post, but i put in about 150 hours. Theres easily 3 different endings with an 'ansestory' gimic. In a play through you can seal away 5 items for your next of kin. So as you may figure, thers some pretty powerful stuff, and while you can aquire it all, it takes like 5 or 6 playthroughs to get it all. Even then, you're not a god, you just have good stats. Overall, if you want to be spoon fed information, your battles easy, and liniar one playstyle wins all type of game, this is not for you. I played through as a different 'entity' every time and felt it was rewarding to some degree, if at least, out of curiosity. Also, split screen. Combat is a bit slow and clunky but your character isn't a hero or decended from a hero line. Just a guy who gets thrown in a really crappy position and has to turn to adventuring to survive. Also, you get to work around this. So if you want Jedi jumping all over, super ninja Goku crap, well...were human down here. Please pass this planet up. Definatly more fun with a friend. so grab a controller, or buddy up on the keyboard and have fun! Oh, and the 150 hours was in the base game, no DLC. Planning on getting those, just ... in time. The best way i can describe it to the modern gamer is, a solo experience MMO. Large enough world, a few options to skills and combat, and things want to kill you dead if only for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
